The cast of the Tony Award-winning musical NEWSIES took their excited final bows at the Nederlander Theatre today to uproarious applause from a packed audience. NEWSIES featured a Tony Award-winning score with music by eight-time Academy Award winner Alan Menken and lyrics by Jack Feldman, with a book by four-time Tony Award winner Harvey Fierstein. Produced by Disney Theatrical Productions, NEWSIES was directed by Tony nominee Jeff Calhoun and choreographed by Christopher Gattelli, who won a 2012 Tony Award for his work. NEWSIES enjoyed almost two and a half years on Broadway.

The national tour company of PIPPIN challenged the Broadway cast of NEWSIES to complete the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge, and the boys have taken them up on their dare. NEWSIES is now challenging Alan Cumming and the Broadway company of CABARET, the Broadway company of MATILDA, and James Iglehart and the cast of ALADDIN. Watch their submission below!

STARS IN THE ALLEY, presented by United Airlines, was presented earlier this week in Shubert Alley, between Broadway and 8th Avenue and 44th and 45th Streets. Schmackary's Cookies, aka: The Official Cookie of Broadway, hosts 'Broadway Bakes' a special benefit for Broadway Cares / Equity Fights AIDS, this week May 27-31. Schmackary's will donate half the proceeds and all tips generated from this event to BCEFA as part of this special pre-Tony Awards 'Thank You Broadway' event. Yesterday, Corey Cott, Ben Fankhauser, and Newsies alum Ryan Steele stopped by where they performed an alternate version of 'Watch What Happens (Reprise)' and Steele showed off with some signature pirouettes.
