Manhattan Theatre Club's world premiere production of Richard Greenberg's The Assembled Parties is currently in previews. Directed by MTC's award-winning Artistic Director Lynne Meadow, the cast features Tony nominee Jessica Hecht, Tony and Emmy Award winner Judith Light, Tony Award nominee Jeremy Shamos, Obie Award winner Mark Blum, Lauren Blumenfeld (We Are Proud to Present...), Alex Dreier (Billy Elliot), Jake Silbermann ('As The World Turns'), and Jonathan Walker (The Divine Sister). The limited engagement of The Assembled Parties will open Wednesday, April 17, 2013 at MTC's Samuel J. Friedman Theatre (261 West 47th Street). Thome and Patrick W. Ziegler of fubble entertainment, LLC. The performances take place at the Museum of Broadcast Communications (MBC) April 13 and 14, and will be filmed in front of a live audience, which will be used to pitch the show to network executives. Today in 2008, Billy Elliot opened at the Imperial Theatre, where it ran for 1312 performances. Billy Elliot the Musical is a musical based on the 2000 film Billy Elliot. The music is by Elton John, and book and lyrics are by Lee Hall, who wrote the film's screenplay. The plot revolves around motherless Billy, who trades boxing gloves for ballet shoes. The story of his personal struggle and fulfillment are balanced against a counter-story of family and community strife caused by the UK miners' strike in County Durham, in North Eastern England. It won ten Tony Awards and ten Drama Desk Awards, including, in each case, best musical. (more...)
