On Friday, October 19, noted arranger and producer, Fred Barton, whose work is heard regularly in concert halls around the country, is bringing the music of Broadway and the American Songbook showmanship to the Schimmel stage. The legendary Harold Arlen won the world over for his score to The Wizard of Oz, and was the composer of countless Broadway and Hollywood songs that will be brought to life backed by a full 12-piece orchestra and stars of the Broadway stage. Swann Auction Galleries to Feature Al Hirschfeld Illustrations, 1/24

Swann Auction Galleries will offer a selection of Broadway drawings by caricaturist Al Hirschfeld during its sale of 20th Century Illustration on January 24. Among the Hirschfeld highlights is a signed and inscribed drawing of Fanny Brice Singing 'Modernistic Moe,' in the Ziegfeld Follies of 1936 (estimate: $3,000 - 4,000). This is one of the earliest Broadway illustrations. (more...)

Christine Baranski, Kelli Barrett, Walter Bobbie, Jeremy Cohen, Dalton Harrod, Randy Skinner, Shonn Wiley, Karen Ziemba,New York City Ballet Principaldancer Joaquin De Luz and American Ballet Theatre principal dancer Irina Dvorovenkowill star in Rodgers and Hart's On Your Toes, the final Encores! presentation of the 2012-13 New York City Center season. Directed and choreographed by Warren Carlyle, On Your Toes will have guest music direction by Encores! founding music director Rob Fisher and will play seven performances, from May 8 - 12 at New York City Center, W. 55th Street (between 6th and 7th Avenues). The "Slaughter on Tenth Avenue" ballet, originally choreographed by George Balanchine, will be staged by Susan Pilarre, who served as a Ballet Mistress of the show's 1983 Broadway Revival. (more...)
