EXIT Theatre Wins BATCC Award for 30 Years of Bay Area Theatre

On May 6, EXIT Theatre received yet another award, this one from the Bay Area Theatre Critics Circle. At their Gala awards ceremony, BATCC honored the blood, toil, tears and sweat behind EXIT - Artistic Director Christina Augello and Managing Director Richard Livingston - with the Paine Knickerbocker Award 'for continuing contribution to Bay Area theatre.' Over 800 swimmers, triathletes and weekend warriors from around the world will take over Watson Island for a fun filled weekend of Open Water Swimming challenges including the Marathon of Swimming: the 10K. Race Director Jonathan Strauss says 'The event keeps growing every year because we make the atmosphere fun and safe for the competitors, plus who doesn't want to swim with such an amazing backdrop.' HGO's Spring 2013 Season Features TRISTAN UND ISOLDE, IL TROVATORE and Mariachi Opera

Spring will bring a trio of striking productions to Houston Grand Opera, starting with the return-by-popular-demand of the world's first mariachi opera - Cruzar la Cara de la Luna ('To Cross the Face of the Moon'). Cruzar - an HGO commission that the company premiered to acclaim in 2010, with the Houston Chronicle calling it 'a multicultural winner' - will run today, March 22-24 at the Wortham Theater Center. Next up is HGO's new production of Wagner's Tristan und Isolde (April 18-May 5), conducted by the company's music and artistic director, Patrick Summers, and starring two of today's greatest Wagnerian singers: soprano Nina Stemme as Isolde and tenor Ben Heppner as Tristan, both in their company debuts. The new season, the 46th season at the Music Center of Los Angeles, will include Jeff Goldblum in the West Coast premiere of the smart, sexy, new Broadway comedy "Seminar," Rachel York in the beloved 1930s musical romp - Cole Porter's "Anything Goes," the American premiere and pre-Broadway presentation of the dramatic musical "Backbeat" which features classic rock 'n' roll in its story of the birth of the Beatles, Tracie Bennett starring as the iconic Judy Garland in the West Coast premiere of the acclaimed play with music - "End of the Rainbow," and the daring new musical that explores a shocking event in American history - Kander and Ebb's "The Scottsboro Boys."
