BWW Blog: Neka Zang of Broadway's ROCK OF AGES - Reminiscingby Guest Blogger: Neka Zang - Oct 25, 2012Maybe it is my reaction to the rain pouring down outside my window. Perhaps it's because I am Under the Weather, sick, uncomfortably wrapped under the warm and protective covers of my bed as I write this. But I am feeling extremely nostalgic today, recalling my days as a kid; a big dreamer standing on awkwardly skinny legs. You see, being sick as an adult sucks because there is no one there to take care of you! Mom? Dad? Where are you? (more...)

BWW Reviews: An American Musical Theatre Treasure, Barbara Cook Mesmerizes at The McCallumby David Green - Mar 23, 2013It is probably not the best form for a writer to begin a composition with “There are No Words To Describe” … but that is the first thing that came to mind after spending a glorious evening in the theatre with a true American Musical Theatre treasure, Barbara Cook, last Thursday at The McCallum. In actuality, there are words. Marvelous. Magnificent. Mesmerizing. And, many more. It was one of those – “Pinch me -- I'm so lucky to be here tonight” sort of evenings and one I will not soon forget. Ms. Cook, at 85, was suffering from an infection in her vocal chords and began the show with a tongue in cheek disclaimer – “Now, don't go home and tell everybody she's losing her voice” – but even at “partial voice' it was an evening not to be missed. Glee-Cap: Diva.by Robert Lawlor - Feb 7, 2013What do Christina Aguilera, Mariah Carey, and Patti LuPone have in common? You know, besides the adjectives of words that rhyme with witch and being known for being - you know, just a wee bit difficult. They're divas, and fellow divas of the Glee world - let us celebrate - well, us! Yes, divas - us. It's Diva week, so you better bring it, because a diva is only as good as his or her last stand. Will McKinley still be standing with all this diva power and will NYADA survive a diva off to end all diva offs? We shall see divas. Snap, snap.
Kurt is sick and tired of Rachel's diva antics and is growing closer and closer to shoving something down her throat. ..Is it sophomore year all over again? The divas come out in full force when Finn declares it Diva week as Brittany, Unique, Tina, Kitty, and Blaine go full on diva with a performance of 'Diva' by Beyonce. Kurt finally snaps at Rachel, and reveals how he threw their original diva-off and challenges La Femme Berry to a diva-off. Blaine, despite being Under the Weather, something Tina and her flu-care kit are on, performs 'Don't Stop Me Now' by Queen. Finn invites Santana back to perform and show New Directions another diva at work, which is exactly what Santana does when she performs 'Nutbush City Limits' with her fellow cheerleaders. But, is Santana completely there just to show off her diva skills or is she onto the Bram in the air? (more...)
InDepth InterView: Blythe Danner Talks NICE WORK IF YOU CAN GET IT, FOCKERS, Broadway, Hollywood & Moreby Pat Cerasaro - Feb 16, 2013Today we are talking to a notable presence on Broadway and in Hollywood who has appeared in countless celebrated entities - ranging from her Tony Award-winning work in BUTTERFLIES ARE FREE and in the original cast of Harold Pinter's BETRAYAL on Broadway along with dozens of other credits; to starring in feature films like THE PRINCE OF TIDES with Barbra Streisand, and, perhaps most famously the MEET THE FOCKERS franchise; to her newest star turn to date, that of featured player in the hit original Gershwin revue NICE WORK IF YOU CAN GET IT - the elegant and accomplished Blythe Danner. Discussing various roles in a number of wide-ranging projects that she has taken on over the course of her idiosyncratic career thus far - such as memorable turns in four Woody Allen films (HUSBANDS & WIVES, ALICE, CRIMES & MISDEMEANORS and ANOTHER WOMAN) and the classic movie musical adaptation of 1776 all the way to her most recent work with Robert De Niro, Ben Stiller and the Fockers clan in the FOCKERS films as well as THE LUCKY ONE with Zac Efron, DETACHMENT with Adrien Brody, TV pilots and much more. Additionally, Danner shares memories of appearing in the 2001 revival of Stephen Sondheim & James Goldman's FOLLIES, as well as appearing on WILL & GRACE with recent InDepth InterView participant Eric McCormack. Most importantly, she offers her thoughts on NICE WORK IF YOU CAN GET IT as an entertainment experience, Gershwin music in general, her co-stars Matthew Broderick and Kelli O'Hara, choreographer and director Kathleen Marshall as well as what drew her to the hit revue in the first place. All of that, working on one of 2012's most memorable films, DETACHMENT, collaborating with Ryan Murphy and Jonathan Groff on the daring (if ultimately unsuccessful) pilot for PRETTY/HANDSOME, thoughts on her daughter, Gwyneth Paltrow's Emmy-winning work on Glee and much, much more awaits in this career-spanning conversation!
