Everyman's Vivienne Shub Receives Honorary Degree from Towson Universityby BWW News Desk - May 25, 2012Favorite Everyman Theatre Company Member, Vivienne Shub, and Director of Development Cathy Wagner received honors from Towson University during commencement exercises at the end of the Spring 2012 semester. Ms. Wagner and Ms. Shub were presented with awards celebrating their dedication to theatre. Resident Company Member Vivienne Shub was honored with an honorary degree during the University’s Graduation Ceremony today, May 25th. She was given an Honorary Bachelor of Arts. Now in her sixth decade as a professional actor, Ms. Shub has been celebrated as one of the region’s most respected performing artists. She taught part-time at Towson for more than 20 years. He was the first artistic director of the National Theatre of Great Britain and its main stage is named in his honour. Olivier's career as a stage and film actor spanned more than six decades and included a wide variety of roles, from the title role in Shakespeare's Othello and Sir Toby Belch in Twelfth Night to the sadistic Nazi dentist Christian Szell in Marathon Man and the kindly but determined Nazi-hunter in The Boys from Brazil. Olivier played more than 120 stage roles: Richard III, Macbeth, Romeo, Hamlet, Othello, Uncle Vanya, and Archie Rice in The Entertainer. MetroStage Presents Steven Dietz' LONELY PLANET, 5/10-6/17by BWW News Desk - May 2, 2012Producing Artistic Director Carolyn Griffin has announced that the final play of the season, Lonely Planet, by Steven Dietz, will be in performance May 10-June 17, 2012. (Note that this replaces the play that was originally announced for this time slot, Playing Sinatra). Dietz is one of the most prolific, versatile and widely produced playwrights in the country. Lonely Planet was written in 1994 and is considered a second generation AIDS play although the disease is never named. Dietz uses his obsession with maps and his connection with Ionesco’s The Chairs to write a play about friendship in the dawn of the AIDS crisis. The play won the PEN-USA Award for Drama. (more...)
