Historic Fort Adams in Newport, Rhode Island Opens Daily for an Adventure Filled Season May 25, 2013

Famous for exciting sailing and water sports, Newport Rhode Island also offers fun and adventure on land with the re-opening of Fort Adams on May 25, 2013. Historic Fort Adams is a National Historic Landmark, and the largest and most complex coastal fortification in North America. Visitors to the Fortress can explore the fort and outer defensive works, take a two mile walk around the peninsula on the Bay Walk, relax on the grass overlooking Narragansett Bay, fly kites or play Frisbees, engage with re-enactors in military exercises, or even picnic. Sarah Jessica Parker and Zac Posen Present Teen Winners of Scholastic Art & Writing Awards at Carnegie Hall, 5/31

On Friday, May 31 at Carnegie Hall, actress and arts advocate Sarah Jessica Parker and fashion designer Zac Posen will share the spotlight with the talented teens who received national honors in the 90 th annual Scholastic Art & Writing Awards. More than 800 teens from 47 states, along with their families and teachers, are expected to attend the celebration. There, 15 graduating seniors will receive Portfolio Gold Medals, the Awards' highest honor, which includes a $10,000 scholarship. Spring 2013 SpotLight Program Honorees Announced by Hennepin Theatre Trust

Hennepin Theatre Trust today announced the new spring 2013 honorees from Minnesota high schools recognizing musical theatre accomplishments by school and category for the 2012-13 SpotLight Musical Theatre Program. Now in its eighth successful year, SpotLight is Hennepin Theatre Trust's flagship educational initiative which honors and supports Minnesota high school musical theatre students and programs. This year, 56 schools, including nine from greater Minnesota, are presenting musicals made possible by the collaboration of almost 5,000 students and annually seen by an estimated 105,000 audience members. Sarasota Fire Department to Receive $20,000 Grant for Sarasota Opera House

Marking $1 million in grants awarded by Fireman's Fund to fire departments in Florida, the Sarasota County Fire Department is receiving $20,000 to purchase smoke detectors and a fire extinguisher training system that will be used to teach local residents how to safely and effectively use fire extinguishers. The grant is awarded by National Trust Insurance Services (NTIS) and Fireman's Fund Insurance Company. (more...)
