Taking a look back at his near-peerless legacy as the top director of the 1980s and 1990s on Broadway, Tune imparts his candid insights about show business and reflects upon many aspects of the aforementioned hit shows - from their inception and creation to their critical and public reception and their ultimate legacy - as well as shares stories about his time as a performer, both then and now, with the star-studded tales cumulatively involving such legendary luminaries as Gene Kelly, Barbra Streisand, Michael Bennett, Hal Prince, Maury Yeston, Ken Russell, Jane Krakowski, Sutton Foster and many more. Rattlestick Playwrights Theatre et al. Present 3C 6/21

Piece by Piece productions, Rising Phoenix Repertory, and Rattlestick Playwrights Theater have announced that the world premiere of 3C, written by David Adjmi and directed by Jackson Gay, will begin performances Wednesday, June 6 at 7pm at Rattlestick Playwrights Theater, 224 Waverly Place. The reading celebrates the first-ever publication of the play, along with the first publication of Robert Ardrey's Casey Jones and Mr. Ardrey's classic Group play Thunder Rock. A Noise Within Announces TOBACCO ROAD Reading, 1/8

A Noise Within (ANW), the acclaimed classical repertory theatre company, offers a free, one-night-only reading of JACK KIRKLAND's powerful drama Tobacco Road on Tuesday, January 8, 2013, 7 pm, in its new state-of-the-art Pasadena theatre. Directed by Apollo Dukakis and featuring A Noise Within resident artists, this Depression-Era Broadway blockbuster, which exposes the South's social and racial injustices with biting satirical humor, portrays an ignorant, dysfunctional and hardscrabble family of Georgia sharecroppers whose spirits are as depleted as the soil in which they toil. Family patriarch Jeeter Lester and his clan are caught up in the excesses of evangelism and the dark side of lust as they strive just to survive the devastation of poverty. Tobacco Road, based on the novel by Erskine Caldwell, holds the record as the second longest running non-musical in Broadway history. (more...)

Barbra Streisand to Helm Romance Following Legendary Photojournalist

The incomparable Barbra Streisand is about to settle back into the director's chair. According to Deadline, the legendary singer and actress is set to helm an upcoming and untitled film following the real-life romance of acclaimed photojournalist Margaret Bourke-White and her husband, author Erskine Caldwell.
