BWW Reviews: MY MOTHER'S KEEPER Shares Memories of Four Generations of Women in a Show Business Family
by Shari Barrett - May 10, 2013

MY MOTHER'S KEEPER, written by Jane Press and directed by Robin McKee, is a highly autobiographical memory play that moves fluidly back and forth between 1914 when an event involving Press' great-grandmother sets off a cycle of damage and dysfunction, and the present. While the humor of this play may be Jewish, the experience of being part of a big, crazy family is universal. (more...)

SOUND OFF: GLEE's Guilty Pleasures, Spice Girls Style
by Pat Cerasaro - Mar 22, 2013

MAMMA MIA! Wham! Spice Up Your Life! What is it with guilty pleasures and exclamation points?! Well, last night's Glee definitely earned an emphatic exclamation point for the 'Guilty Pleasures' show - so bad it was good, just like it should be... against all odds, as it were. Zig-a-zig-ah! Glee-Cap: Guilty Pleasures.
by Robert Lawlor - Mar 21, 2013

Guilty Pleasures - everyone has them, even if some of us aren't all that ashamed of our love of those things people tend to deny they like. Me? I love Grease 2 and I'm not in the least bit ashamed, because well - it's the best ever. Tonight, Glee celebrates all things guilty pleasure - all those songs on your iPod you claim you "don't know where they came from" or that song you change on the radio dial unless you're alone, then you jam away like you're in it to win it. Gather ye, guilty pleasure lovers and haters - it's time to face the music. Wham! Blaine continues to crush on Sam, but when he confronts Sam about how he spotted him stealing pasta, Sam reveals he has a guilty pleasure for pasta art - making pasta art of Emma Stone, Leanne Rimes, and even Kurt. When Sam asks Blaine what his guilty pleasure is, Blaine fumbles and says 'Wham', when in fact he means Sam, but this prompts the duo known as Blam to propose a guilty pleasure week for glee club since Mr. Schue is 'out sick'. Kicking off the guilty pleasure goodness is Sam and Blaine with 'Wake Me Up (Before You Go-Go)" - all Technicolor 80's glory! BLAM! Brittany calls Kitty on her bitchy ways, and gets her on Fondue for Two and they dish guilty pleasures (including all of the Bring It On films), but Kitty's guiltiest pleasure is kept between the two and the fondue. Kurt's acting class calls for embarrassing moments, but Kurt won't admit to owning and using a boyfriend pillow as his greatest embarrassing secret, but one would think sweating to the oldies with Richard Simmons would be the worst, but we'll just try and forget that one. BWW Review: Seattle Shakes' LOVE'S LABOUR'S LOST - A RomCom That Needs Focus
by Jay Irwin - Mar 16, 2013

Sometimes Shakespeare is all about murder and revenge and history and import and sometimes it's just a goofy romp through the ins and outs of the heart. And "Love's Labour's Lost" from the Seattle Shakespeare Company currently playing at the Center Theatre is definitely part of the latter group. Probably the biggest example of Shakespeare at his most frivolous, the production definitely had its shining moments but tended to betray its own story near the end and whether that's the script or the direction, it left me a little wanting. by Devin MacDonald - Apr 3, 2013

East Lynne Theater Company Presents WHY MARRY?, 5/10
by BWW News Desk - Apr 17, 2013

'I can't marry Ernest Hamilton. I love him! We wish to be free to keep together! In the old days when they had interests in common, marriage used to make man and woman one, but now, it puts them apart. Can't you see it all about you? No wonder one in eleven ends in divorce. The only way to avoid spiritual separation is to shun legal union like a disease. Modern marriage is divorce.' Helen is talking to her much befuddled family in Jesse Lynch Williams' comedy 'Why Marry?,' the first play to receive a Pulitzer Prize. A Broadway hit in 1917, it toured the country for a year, but had not been produced again until East Lynne Theater Company included it in its 2006 Cape May production season. The show was so successful, that ELTC revived it the following summer. On Friday, May 10 at 7:30p.m., 'Why Marry?' returns to a NYC stage for the first time since 1917 when ELTC presents a staged reading with most of the actors who were in the acclaimed 2007 production, at The Players Club, located at 16 Gramercy Park South (20th Street, East of Park Avenue).
