Oratorio Society of New York 140th Season to Feature 'The Blizzard Voices' 11/5by BWW News Desk - Oct 3, 2012To launch the 140th anniversary season of the Oratorio Society of New York, the city's second-oldest cultural organization still performing, OSNY Music Director Kent Tritle has created an all-American program about "American aesthetics, history, and experience": music by Charles Ives and Aaron Copland and the New York premiere of a 2008 oratorio about an 1888 American tragedy. "American Voices" takes place on Monday, November 5, 2012, at Carnegie Hall, and features arrangements for chorus and orchestra of selections from Copland's Old American Songs and three songs by Charles Ives; Copland's "The Promise of Living" from The Tender Land; and the New York premiere of Paul Moravec's The Blizzard Voices, a work based on poetry by former U.S. Poet Laureate Ted Kooser about the Great Plains blizzard of 1888. The Collegiate Chorale Announces Concerts in Israel and Salzburg This Julyby BWW News Desk - May 29, 2012 In a return engagement with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra (IPO), The Collegiate Chorale will perform 11 concerts in Tel Aviv and Haifa with the IPO under the baton of renowned conductors Zubin Mehta and Riccardo Muti. They will then travel with the IPO to Austria to make their Salzburg Festival debut, the first performance there by an American choir since the Chicago Symphony Chorus appeared in 1989. (more...)

The Oratorio Society of New York's AMERICAN VOICES Concert Set for 3/5by BWW News Desk - Feb 4, 2013The Oratorio Society of New York was slated to perform its program, "American Voices" featuring the New York premiere of Paul Moravec's oratorio The Blizzard Voices at Carnegie Hall on November 5, 2012, as the first program of its 140th anniversary season. But Hurricane Sandy blew into the city the week before, and the concert was one of several that had to be postponed. The OSNY milestone season opened instead with its annual performance of Handel's Messiah at Christmastime. (more...)
