The Night of the Iguana 1961

The Tennessee Williams Theatre Company (TWTC) started its 2023 season with the Tennessee Williams classic, NIGHT OF THE IGUANA, currently running at The Lower Depths Theatre at Loyola University in New Orleans through March 26.

The original “Dainty June” in the 1959 Broadway production of Gypsy is presenting a cabaret program of classic French compositions in her new show, MON HISTOIRE EN CHANSONS FRANCAISES.

During this time when productions all over the world have been put on pause, we are coming together to celebrate plays that have left their mark on theater history.This week we will be focusing on the plays of Pulitzer Prize winning playwright, Tennessee Williams. Today's play, The Night of the Iguana!

Lane Bradbury may have been born and raised as a Southern Belle in Georgia, and performed on Broadway, in films, and on television, but there's a Parisian chanteuse in her soul. Now 81, but with the energy of a performer half her age, the original 'Dainty June' in the 1959 Broadway production of Gypsy will present a cabaret program of classic French compositions in her new show, MON HISTOIRE EN CHANSONS FRANCAISES (My Story in French Songs) at Pangea (178 2nd Ave, between 11th and 12th Streets, NYC), on February 13 at 7 pm. In Tahiti in 1940, a penniless Tennessee Williams lay in a hammock beside another writer also despairing of ever finding success, both binge-drinking rum-cocos and welcoming the dramatic storms that temporarily eclipsed their melancholy. To make matters worse, a party of German Nazis was bragging about their success in the war, and Williams' friend pitched 'the long swim to China'.

Civic Rep will produce a season of work written by Tennessee Williams while in residence at Open Space on Vashon. Civic Rep has two prior productions of plays by Tennessee Williams under their belt: THE TWO-CHARACTER PLAY and A STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE, both of which enjoyed successful runs at New City Theatre in Seattle.

The Acting Company presents a one-night-only benefit reading of The Night of the Iguana, Tennessee Williams' feverishly poetic 1961 drama, at The Kaye Playhouse at Hunter College (68th Street between Park and Lexington Avenues), on Monday, June 11. Directed by Michael Wilson, the acclaimed Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle Award-winner, the performance reunites much of the cast and creative team from last season's critically acclaimed production at the American Repertory Theatre. 

Director and actor Frank Corsaro has just been reported dead. He was 92. Corsaro was best known as the director of the 1961 production of The Night of the Iguana starring Bette Davis.

In 1959, theater, film, and TV star LANE BRADBURY created the role of Dainty June in the original Broadway production of the iconic show GYPSY starring Ethel Merman. Now, almost 60 years later, Bradbury is making her debut at the legendary cabaret Don't Tell Mama with LET ME ENTERTAIN YOU, AGAIN. Bradbury's musical trip down memory lane is a personal tour of how she transitioned from being an Atlanta Debutante to a performer on The Great White Way during the Golden Age of Broadway Musicals. Written by Doug DeVita, directed by Bradbury's daughter Elkin Antoniou, and with Musical Direction by Joe Goodrich, Lane Bradbury's LET ME ENTERTAIN YOU, AGAIN hits the Don't Tell Mama stage for a third performance on Sunday, September 24 at 7 pm.

Performances continue through November 13, with specially priced previews on October 12 and 13.

?Due to popular demand, A Red Orchid Theatre has extended its critically-acclaimed production of Tennessee Williams' The Mutilated, directed by Ensemble Member Dado. The Mutilated will now run through March 13, 2016. The Mutilated features Ensemble Members Lance Baker, Jennifer Engstrom, Mierka Girten, Steve Haggard, Shade Murray, Doug Vickers and Natalie West with Ciera Dawn, Jennifer Glasse, Roy Gonzalez, Mario Hernandez, Morgan Maher, Lauren Vogel and Dominque Worsley.
