NSF Awards Grant to Balboa Park Cultural Partnership for 'Art of Science Learning' in San Diego, Chicago and Worcester, MAby BWW News Desk - Sep 21, 2012The National Science Foundation has awarded a grant of $2,654,895 to the Balboa Park Cultural Partnership (Partnership) for phase 2 of the Art of Science Learning Initiative, a project entitled 'Integrating Informal STEM and Arts-Based Learning to Foster Innovation.' Harvey Seifter, Art of Science Learning founder/director, is the project's director and principal investigator. Full Cast Announced for Disney's ALADDIN in Seattle!by BWW - Jun 1, 2011The 5th Avenue Theatre is thrilled to announce casting for the highly anticipated premiere of Disney's Aladdin, a new stage musical. The show will feature Adam Jacobs and Courtney Reed as Aladdin and Jasmine, James Monroe Iglehart as the Genie, and Seattle mainstay Seán G. Griffin as the Sultan. Jonathan Freeman takes the stage to embody the role he originally voiced for the film, the Royal Vizier Jafar. He is joined by comedic favorite Don Darryl Rivera as Iago. Aladdin restores a trio of characters originally conceived by the film's creators: Omar, Babkak, and Kassim, played by Andrew Keenan-Bolger, Brian Gonzales, and Brandon O'Neill, respectively. Broadway's Casey Nicholaw will direct. The Public Theater Receives $4 Million Gift From The Bernard and Anne Spitzer Charitable Trustby BWW News Desk - Aug 2, 2012Public Theater Executive Director Patrick Willingham announced last night from the Delacorte Theater stage that the Bernard and Anne Spitzer Charitable Trust has generously donated $4 million to The Public Theater to support free Shakespeare in the Park and the capital campaign for the revitalization of its landmark Astor Place building, which includes five theaters and Joe's Pub. Members of the Spitzer family were in the audience on Wednesday evening to enjoy the free Shakespeare in the Park production of Into the Woods. The Spitzers' first gift to the theater will be gratefully acknowledged with a plaque at the Delacorte Theater. (more...)

The survey reports that compared with 1990 Americans are on average 20 pounds heavier than they were 20 years ago (men from 180 pounds to 196 and women from 142 to 160). Even more shocking is that men and women both feel those higher numbers are close to an ideal weight. Just 39 percent of Americans characterize themselves as overweight. Us obese? No way. (more...)
