On May 8, The Library of Congress kicked off a series of events honoring Grammy- and Academy-Award-winning songwriters Burt Bacharach and Hal David, recipients of the 2012 Library of Congress Gershwin Prize for Popular Song, culminating a special tribute delivered by President Barack Obama. The prize commemorates George and Ira Gershwin, the legendary American songwriting team whose extensive collection resides in the Library of Congress. The White House program, which was taped by WETA Washington, D.C. as part of the "In Performance at the White House" series, will premiere on PBS stations nationwide tonight, May 21, 2012 at 9 p.m. EDT (check local listings) as "Burt Bacharach & Hal David: The Library of Congress Gershwin Prize for Popular Song In Performance at the White House." Pittsburgh CLO Announces Full Casts of Local Productions - Starring Sally Struthers, Hunter Herdlicka, Liz Callaway and More!

Pittsburgh CLO has announced casting for its summer season, which includes six shows, featuring the national tours of Come Fly Away and The Addams Family, and CLO original productions of A Chorus Line, Annie, Fiddler on the Roof and Sunset Boulevard. Notably, A CHORUS LINE brings on board a slew of the show's national tour veterans, ANNIE stars Sally Struthers as Miss Hannigan, FIDDLER ON THE ROOF features Broadway's Lewis J. Stadlen, Susan Cella, Hunter Herdlicka, Joel Robertson, Emily Shoolin and Kay Walbye. Liz Callaway and Walter Charles are set to star in SUNSET BOULEVARD. (more...)

Springfield Song Dropped From MAD MEN Premiere Due to Inaccuracy

EWonline.com reports that MAD MEN creator and executive producer Matthew Weiner has decided to drop Dusty Springfield’s 1967 tune “The Look of Love,” from the show's upcoming season 5 premiere after it was pointed out by critics that the song was not released until six months after the episode supposedly takes place. A seven-years-and-counting fixture at New York's famed Café Carlyle (a spot he inherited from one of his mentors, the late Bobby Short), Steve Tyrell--a long-time behind-the-scenes music veteran-turned chart-topping jazz superstar--has returned to Orange County, California for a series of highly-entertaining shows at the Samueli Theatre as part of Segerstrom Center for the Arts' wonderful Cabaret Series through Sunday, January 8. Backed by a truly kick-ass jazz ensemble led by his music director Quinn Johnson behind the piano, Tyrell's rousing show truly set out to showcase a feel-good time, injecting lots of life to some very familiar tunes from the Great American Songbook.
