Christopher Plummer, Barbara Byrne and More Join Guthrie's 50th Anniversary Gala, 6/22

The Guthrie today announced that eight artists who have graced the Guthrie's stages during its 50-year history, from the first season in 1963 to the theater's current season, are slated to participate in the Guthrie's 50th anniversary on June 22, 2013. Exclusive interviews with the legendary Zoe Caldwell and Christopher Plummer will be unveiled as part of a poignant and celebratory multi-media tribute, while stage veterans Barbara Bryne, Peter Michael Goetz and Stephen Yoakam; two graduates of the University of Minnesota/Guthrie Theater B.F.A. Actor Training Program, Matthew Amendt and Valeri Mudek; and an alum of A Guthrie Experience for Actors in Training, Erik Heger; will perform live for the one-night-only event. (more...)

Bonneville Announced As National Youth Theatre Patron At Launch Of West End Season

Phil Bronstein Joins DEAD METAPHOR Talkback at A.C.T., 3/20

American Conservatory Theater (A.C.T.) will welcome Phil Bronstein - esteemed journalist and Executive Chair of the Board for the Center for Investigative Reporting - for a special postshow discussion with A.C.T. Artistic Director Carey Perloff immediately following the 8 p.m. performance of George F. Walker's Dead Metaphor on Wednesday, March 20, 2013. The discussion will explore issues raised by Dead Metaphor, including nationwide unemployment rates among veterans and the politics of postwar living. Bronstein will also discuss his recent investigative report on the Navy Seal responsible for killing Osama Bin Laden who has since had difficulty finding a job back at home (http://cironline.org/theshooter). Chris Larkin joins David Bark-Jones, Maureen Beattie, Simon Bubb, Danielle Flett, Geoffrey Freshwater, Neil Pearson, Thomasin Rand and Sasha Waddell in the UK tour of Michael Frayn's multi- award-winning backstage comedy Noises Off, directed by Lindsay Posner. Following its acclaimed run at The Old Vic and then at the Novello Theatre in the West End, Noises Off will tour theatres across the UK and Ireland from tonight, 27 March 2013. Re-Conceived RING OF FIRE Musical to Premiere at Milwaukee Rep, Now thru 5/5

From the iconic songbook of Johnny Cash comes this unique musical about love and faith, struggle and success, rowdiness and redemption, and home and family. More than two dozen classic hits - including 'I Walk the Line,' 'A Boy Named Sue,' 'Folsom Prison Blues,' and the title tune - performed by a multi-talented cast, paint a musical portrait of The Man in Black that promises to be a foot-stompin', crowd-pleasin' salute to a uniquely American legend! Richard Maltby, Jr. created the piece and will also direct The Rep's production. It was originally conceived by William Meade with orchestrations by Steven Bishop and Jeff Lisenby. Malty is re-conceiving his Johnny Cash tribute specifically for a five-member ensemble for The Rep's Stackner Cabaret. The cast features Trenna Barnes, Eddie Clendening, Jason Edwards, David Miles Keenan and Mark W. Winchester, who are all making their Rep debuts. Ring of Fire: The Music of Johnny Cash runs in the Stackner Cabaret from tonight, March 1 - May 5, and opens Sunday, March 3. (more...)

Red Bull Theater's DANCE OF DEATH Begins Tomorrow

Red Bull Theater (Jesse Berger, Artistic Director) today announced that Derek Smith would join the cast for the American Premiere of a new adaptation of August Strindberg's The Dance of Death by Mike Poulton (Tony Award Nominee for Best Play for Fortune's Fool), directed by Joseph Hardy (Tony Award winner for Best Director for Child's Play). This strictly limited engagement begins Wednesday April 10th and continues through May 4th only, at the Lucille Lortel Theater (121 Christopher Street, between Bleecker and Hudson Streets). Opening Night is set for Thursday April 18th. Hardy directs a company that features Daniel Davis, Laila Robins, and Derek Smith. (more...)

International City Theatre Opens DEAD MAN'S CELL PHONE, 6/7
