The Tony Award-winning Manhattan Theatre Club (Peter J. Solomon, Chairman of the Board; Lynne Meadow, Artistic Director; Barry Grove, Executive Producer) dedicated its Broadway theatre the 'Samuel J. Friedman Theatre' on Thursday, September 4. The ceremony began at the theatre (261 West 47th Street at 8th Avenue) . MTC previously announced that it was renaming its Broadway home, until now known as the Biltmore Theatre, the Samuel J. Friedman Theatre in recognition of the pioneering Broadway publicist. Tyne Daly Previews Her Cabaret Show to Benefit ATC 4/26, Feinstein's Run to Follow

Emmy and Tony Award winner Tyne Daly, most recently on Broadway in the Pulitzer Prize-winning Rabbit Hole, will preview her cabaret show on Sunday, April 26, 2009, to benefit Abingdon Theatre Company. Her one-time performance in the June Havoc Theatre will be followed by Miss Daly's debut May 12-16 at Feinstein's at Loews Regency. (more...)

Director Ulu Grosbard Dies at 83

Broadway and film director Ulu Grosbard died in Manhattan early this week. Known for his direction of Broadway productions like David Mamet's American Buffalo and films like True Confessions, the 83 year old died at the NYU Langone Medical Center on late Sunday or early Monday, the New York Times reports. George Street Playhouse to Host A Conversation with Tyne Daly, 2/25

Actress Tyne Daly returns to the George Street Playhouse stage for a one-night-only event Monday, February 25. The event, first in a planned series of 'Conversations with...' will feature the award-winning actress in a one-on-one conversation with GSP Artistic Director David Saint. In addition to conversing with Mr. Saint, Ms. Daly will also take questions from the audience as well. All proceeds of the event will go toward the support of George Street Playhouse's mainstage and educational programming. (more...)

Martin Sheen to Return to Stage in 'The Subject Was Roses' with Conroy & Geraghty at LA Music Center

Martin Sheen will return to the Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning play that brought him a Tony Award nomination in 1964, and join with Frances Conroy and Brian Geraghty in 'The Subject Was Roses' by Frank D. Gilroy, it was announced today by Center Theatre Group Artistic Director Michael Ritchie. 'The Subject Was Roses' replaces the previously announced 'Speed-the-Plow' by David Mamet as the first production in the Taper's 2010 season at the Los Angeles Music Center, February 10 through March 21, 2010.
