Christopher Plummer, Barbara Byrne and More Join Guthrie's 50th Anniversary Gala, 6/22

The Guthrie today announced that eight artists who have graced the Guthrie's stages during its 50-year history, from the first season in 1963 to the theater's current season, are slated to participate in the Guthrie's 50th anniversary on June 22, 2013. Exclusive interviews with the legendary Zoe Caldwell and Christopher Plummer will be unveiled as part of a poignant and celebratory multi-media tribute, while stage veterans Barbara Bryne, Peter Michael Goetz and Stephen Yoakam; two graduates of the University of Minnesota/Guthrie Theater B.F.A. Actor Training Program, Matthew Amendt and Valeri Mudek; and an alum of A Guthrie Experience for Actors in Training, Erik Heger; will perform live for the one-night-only event. (more...)

Lincoln Center Theater has announced two productions that will open this fall: a 75th Anniversary production of the Clifford Odets' classic GOLDEN BOY, to be directed by Bartlett Sher beginning performances Thursday November 8 and opening Monday, December 3 at a Broadway theatre to be announced; and the New York premiere of VANYA AND SONIA AND MASHA AND SPIKE a new play by Christopher Durang, to be directed by Nicholas Martin, beginning performances Thursday, October 25 and opening Monday, November 12 at the Mitzi E. As the final of three mainstage productions during the two-month Eugene O'Neill Festival spearheaded by Arena Stage at the Mead Center for American Theater, Long Day's Journey into Night rounds out this celebration of O'Neill's life and work. The English-born and Canadian-based director and former Stratford Festival Artistic Director Robin Phillips makes his Arena Stage debut to direct his fourth production of this Pulitzer Prize-winning play in a theatrical career spanning more than 50 years. Rialto Chatter: Sigourney Weaver to Star in Christopher Durang's VANYA AND SONIA AND MASHA AND SPIKE?

In a recent interview with Showbiz411, stage and screen star Sigourney Weaver revealed that she might be heading back to the stage in another Christopher Durang play at Lincoln Center. Weaver, who previously worked with Durang in 1996's Sex and Longing, would join the cast of VANYA AND SONIA AND MASHA AND SPIKE, opening November 12 at the Mitzi E. Newhouse Theater. An official casting announcement has not yet been made. (more...)

Berkeley Repertory Theatre Will Open Its Season With VANYA AND SONIA AND MASHA AND SPIKE

Today, Berkeley Repertory Theatre revealed the seventh show selected for its upcoming season. The Tony Award-winning nonprofit will begin its 46th year of smart and adventurous shows with Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike, the hilarious Broadway hit from three-time Obie Award-winner Christopher Durang. Respected director Richard E.T. White returns to the Bay Area to stage this hugely popular show in September. (more...)
