Kim Yarbrough, Alison Cusano Join ONE NIGHT WITH JANIS JOPLIN at Arena Stage

Following a critically acclaimed run at Arena Stage at the Mead Center for American Theater this past fall, One Night with Janis Joplin returns for a summer run. Leading the production is Mary Bridget Davies. Davies is joined by Sabrina Elayne Carten as the Blues Singer. Created, written and directed by Randy Johnson, the production is produced in partnership with The Pasadena Playhouse and Milwaukee Repertory Theater, in association with Todd Gershwin and Daniel Chilewich of One Night Productions, The Estate of Janis Joplin and Jeff Jampol of JAM, Inc. One Night with Janis Joplin runs June 21-August 11, 2013 in the Kreeger Theater. (more...)

Sundance Institute to Honor Roger Ebert, Ryan Coogler at LA Benefit, 6/5

The third annual Celebrate Sundance Institute Los Angeles Benefit, celebrating artistry and visionary leadership in independent film. This year, the benefit will honor the life and work of beloved journalist and film critic Roger Ebert with the Vanguard Leadership Award in Memoriam, in recognition of his advocacy of independent cinema. The award will be presented by Sundance Institute President and Founder Robert Redford and accepted by Ebert's wife, Chaz Ebert. Kerry Washington will present Ryan Coogler with the Vanguard Award, Presented by Tiffany & Co. Coogler is a director and alum of the Sundance Institute Feature Film Program. His first feature film, Fruitvale Station, was selected for Sundance Institute's Screenwriters Lab and went on to win both the Grand Jury Prize and the Audience Award at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival. Ronald McDonald House New York's 21st Annual Gala Raises A Historic $6 Million

New York City's brightest stars in the retail and financial industries turned out in record numbers to celebrate the 35th anniversary of Ronald McDonald House New York. Held last night at the Waldorf Astoria New York, the event raised more than $6 million - the highest amount raised at a gala in the organization's history. For the third consecutive year, ABC news anchor, author and talk show host Barbara Walters served as master of ceremonies at the gala, while the event honored Macy's Inc.'s Chief Merchandising Officer Jeff Gennette, Diana DiMenna, noted philanthropist and her husband Joseph DiMenna, managing director of Zweig-DiMenna Associates Inc. Mercury Theater Chicago Offers Free Kids Tickets at BARNUM

Kids aged 7 to 14 will receive a free ticket with the purchase of each adult ticket for weekday performances of the circus musical BARNUM at Mercury Theater Chicago, 3745 N. Southport, running through June 16, 2013. To redeem, visit the box office or call 773-325-1700. Throughout the toe-tapping musical, the glitz and grandeur of the circus is brought to life on Mercury Theater Chicago's intimate stage. 14 actors entertain the audience with 24 rapid-fire costume changes and perform over 14 breathtaking head-over-heels acrobatic tricks featuring 18 juggling balls, 12 juggling scarves, 9 juggling balls, 2 Spanish webs and 1 circus lyra. 6 musicians create the rousing sound of the Big Top with 12 instruments, and 2 stilt walkers tower over the audience. 100 bricks are used to construct the historic American Museum. 3 sassy wooden poodles parade acRoss the stage, along with 1 magnificent tiger and 1 larger-than-life elephant puppet. Ensemble ACJW Concludes 2012-2013 Season at Brooklyn's Galapagos Art Space

In a newly announced concert, Ensemble ACJW performs an original program entitledFrom Dusk til Dawn: A Musical Journey from Darkness to Light at Galapagos Art Space onMonday, June 10 at 7:30 p.m. For their debut performance at the Brooklyn venue, the musicians have put together an imaginative program with several of their original compositions and new arrangements in addition to works and excerpts by Chopin, Ravel, Schoenberg, Messiaen, George Crumb, Herbie Hancock, and more. The program is a musical journey from darkness to light, with repertoire selected to represent dusk, midnight, and dawn-sometimes explicitly and other times more abstractly.
