Florida Stage opens its 24th season with the new mystery 'Cane,' written by Andrew Rosendorf. Cane represents the first in a collection of plays being commissioned by Florida Stage about issues central to the state of Florida (The Florida Cycle). ICT artistic director caryn desai [sic] directs Ryan Vincent Anderson, Veralyn Jones, Tarina Pouncy and Karen Malina White in a four-week run, June 3 through June 26 at International City Theatre in the Long Beach Performing Arts Center. McCree Theatre Awarded National Endowment Of The Arts (NEA) Grant

The New McCree Theatre was award a $10,000 Access to Artistic Excellence grant for Musical Theater by the National Endowment for the Arts. This grant is being used to support McCree?s Traveling Theatre Experience (TTE)program. TTE is presenting the hit Broadway musical, Purlie, based on the play, Purlie Victorious by Ossie Davis, June 12 and 13, 2009 at 8:00 p.m. at the beautiful Malcolm Field Theatre on the campus of Saginaw Valley State University, 7400 Bay Road, 3 miles north of the Fashion Square Mall. Four renowned achievers will be honored for their lifetime accomplishments with the 34th Annual Common Wealth Awards of Distinguished Service. The awards recognize individuals who have enriched modern society in a range of human endeavors. The 2013 Common Wealth Award winners are: Alan Alda, celebrated actor, director and screenwriter, for Dramatic Arts; David McCullough, preeminent author and historian, for Literature; Jane Pauley, leading broadcast journalist, Today Show contributor and author, for Mass Communications; Martin Sheen, film legend, social activist and humanitarian, for Public Service. One of the most beloved artists of the past century, it is largely forgotten that van Gogh's legacy was not always that of an artistic genius. In the one-man play 'Vincent', Theo van Gogh revisits the turbulent life of his brother, offering insight into the world of the tormented artist. Set in Paris 1890, only a week after his brother's dramatic death, Theo appeals to an audience of van Gogh's contemporaries who have written the painter off as an insane fool. The result is a moving effort to rescue his brother's legacy, transforming him from a madman into a beloved brother and misunderstood talent. (more...)

Memorable music and heaps of fun unfold as Purlie out maneuvers ol' massa. Purlie will preview at the 'New' McCree Theatre, 322 E. Hamilton, Flint, February 19 -21, 2009. Regular performances will be held February 26 - March 14, 2009. All performances will be held on Thursday and Friday at 8:00 p.m. and on Saturdays at 3:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. Admission prices for previews are: Advance tickets, $8.00 for adults and $5.00 for students and senior citizens; at the door prices are $10.00 for adults and $6.00 for students and senior citizens. Broadway's Cort Theatre (138 West 48th Street), just celebrated its 100th Anniversary yesterday, December 20th. The theatre, which opened on December 20, 1912 with a Peg O'My Heart starring Laurette Taylor, is currently home to the Broadway Premiere of Grace, which will end its limited engagement on January 6, 2013. It will next be home to the World Premiere production of Truman Capote's Breakfast at Tiffany's, a new play written by Richard Greenberg, which starts performances on Monday, March 4 and opens on Wednesday, March 20.
