Gilbert & Sullivan Society of Austin to Stage PRINCESS IDA, OR CASTLE ADAMANT, 6/13-23

The Gilbert & Sullivan Society of Austin is proud to present its Summer 2013 Grand Production of Princess Ida, or Castle Adamant. We are performing this classic, which was Arthur Sullivan & W.S. Gilbert's eighth comic opera out of fourteen, for the first time in our history. Sullivan's score is majestic, and many consider Gilbert's libretto one of his funniest. (more...)

Lamplighters 2012-2013 Season to Include THE MIKADO, THE SORCERER, PRINCESS IDA

The Lamplighters announce an all Gilbert & Sullivan 60th season opening with The Mikado in July/August 2012, then continuing with a 60th Anniversary Celebration Gala & Auction on October 21, 2012, Princess Ida in January/February 2013 and The Sorcerer in March 2013. Subscriptions go on sale in April and will add Livermore and Mountain View to San Francisco and Walnut Creek as options for subscribers. Single tickets will be available for purchase on June 1. The Finborough Theatre Presents Gilbert and Sullivan's THE GRAND DUKE,

The New Actors Company in association with Neil McPherson for the Finborough Theatre presents THE GRAND DUKE. The Finborough Theatre's 'Celebrating British Music Theatre' series continues with the first fully staged professional UK production of Gilbert and Sullivan's final operetta, The Grand Duke, since the original 1896 production. It opens at the Finborough Theatre for a strictly limited run of six Sundays and Mondays from Sunday, 1 April 2012. (more...)

BWW Reviews: Lamplighters' PRINCESS IDA Offers Best of Gilbert and Sullivan

Promised in marriage at the early age of one, Princess Ida lectures that woman must first place her feet upon man's neck. Only then, man conquered, may she treat him better than he treated womankind. By the end of Gilbert and Sullivan's comic operetta named after the mighty maiden, this may seem the only solution for her betrothed, who wishes to win her love. One can already see the dashing Prince Hilarion stooping to offer his head when he and two friends dress in women's clothing and sneak into Ida's all-female university. (more...)
