BWW Reviews: REEFER MADNESS is So Funny, It Should Be Illegalby Jeff Davis - Jun 9, 2013Sometimes there's nothing as hysterical as hysteria. That's the main premise of Reefer Madness, currently produced by Doctuh Mistuh Productions, a musical satire about the dangers of marijuana. The show, which splits its run between the Spiderhouse Ballroom and the Dougherty Arts Center, is an absolute laugh riot. (more...)

BWW Reviews: Creators of The 50 Shades Parody Deserve a SPANKingby Jeff Davis - Jun 7, 2013It doesn't get much more disappointing than Spank! The Fifty Shades Parody, an incredibly misguided spoof of the equally misguided novel Fifty Shades of Grey, where every joke is predictable, expected, bland, and punctuated by ferocious dry-humping. BWW Reviews: The Muny Opens Season with Funny Production of SPAMALOTby Chris Gibson - Jun 19, 2013Torrential rains beforehand, a late start, and even technical issues couldn't dampen the enthusiasm of the cast SPAMALOT, which is currently playing The Muny. I brought my young son along to the show since he'd enjoyed the movie, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, that it's based on, and I'm happy to report that he laughed at the silliness on display repeatedly. I myself have issues with this hodgepodge of scenes cobbled from the cult film, and in fact, it is the additional elements that book writer and Python member Eric Idle included, along with a couple of fresh songs he's written with frequent collaborator John Du Prez, that really stand out to me in this parody/homage. One thing's for sure, a game cast led by John O'Hurley delivered a hilarious presentation under less than ideal conditions this past Monday at the Muny. (more...)

BWW Reviews: A Bit in the Dark in Happy Medium Theatre's BLACK COMEDYby Alexandra Lonati - Jun 17, 2013Sir Peter Shaffer's Black Comedy is a classic example of British farce, with abundant physical humor, extreme politeness, mistaken identities, and hidden passions. The story concerns a sculptor who aims to impress his fiance's father and a potential buyer by borrowing his neighbor's fancy furniture; however, all his plans go awry when a fuse is blown and the entire building is plunged into darkness. Shaffer's hilarious concept allows the audience to see what everyone in the play cannot, and classical British hijinks ensue. (more...)
BWW Reviews: Brilliant Satirical YES, PRIME MINISTER Lands at Geffenby Don Grigware - Jun 17, 2013Not unlike David Mamet's November, a screwball look at the overwhelming incompetence of an American President, Yes, Prime Minister by Antony Jay and Jonathan Lynn in its American premiere at the Geffen, is a savvy, right-on-target satire of British politics that is over-the-top, hysterically funny with an outstanding director and cast.
