Juliette Fairley Named Up & Coming Artist at Pocono Film Festival

Sam Kelley's The Blue Vein Society and No Hidin' Place takes us back to a time and place in late nineteenth-century America when African Americans struggled to achieve human dignity against oppressive interracial and intraracial barriers that promoted a segregated culture rooted in class and color. These powerful dramas, based on two short stories by African American fiction writer, Charles Chesnutt, examine complicated family and social dynamics that resonate with disturbing power for today's world where both class and color continue to matter. Andrea J. Fulton's ONE DROP Set for Bed-Stuy Festival, 6/23

Playwright Andrea J. Fulton announces performances of two excerpts from her play 'One Drop,' in which an exceptional multi-cultural cast portrays the truth-based story of a Mulatto in Louisiana in the 1800s. Power, control, love, faith and fear collide as he chooses whether or not to 'pass,' calling into question not only his values and loyalties, but also those of everyone he encounters. Original songs lend authenticity to a story told with honesty, humor and humanity. Two scenes from this moving work will be shown: Scene 4 on the hour, and Scene 7 on the half-hour throughout the day. (more...)
