PHOEBE IN WINTER to Begin Previews 6/7 as Part of Clubbed Thumb's SUMMERWORKS Festival

The second of three world-premieres presented by the 5-time Obie Award-winning Clubbed Thumb in its 18th annual SUMMERWORKS festival of new plays -- PHOEBE IN WINTER by Jen Silverman -- begins previews June 7 prior to its official press opening June 10 at The Wild Project (195 E. 3 St.) in Manhattan. FAR FROM HEAVEN Extends at Playwrights Horizon Through 7/7

Due to popular demand, Playwrights Horizons (Tim Sanford, Artistic Director; Leslie Marcus, Managing Director) has announced an extension of its World Premiere production of the eagerly-awaited new musical FAR FROM HEAVEN. MILLION DOLLAR QUARTET to Become Chicago's Longest-Running Broadway Musical, May 26

Million Dollar Quartet announces that this Saturday, May 26, 2013 marks the official date at which it becomes the longest-running musical production in Chicago's history. With 1,949 performances and 5 smash years in Chicago, the Tony Award-winning rock 'n' roll musical has surpassed both Wicked and Pumpboys and Dinettes, setting a new record for the longest running Broadway musical in Chicago. WICKED Breaks Records in South Bend

From May 8th thru the 19th, WICKED bewitched more than 36,000 patrons at The Morris Theatre, broke box office records with a record gross of $2.7 million dollars and became South Bend's most successful touring Broadway Show. The 16 performances resulted in standing ovations from the audiences, but also had a larger impact on the local community. (more...)

York Theatre to Present Reading of FICTION IN PHOTOGRAPHS, 6/13

The York Theatre Company and its acclaimed Developmental Reading Series kicks off the summer with Janet Brenner co-producing Fiction In Photographs, an original musical conceived and directed by Randy Redd, with Book by Dan Elish and Music & Lyrics by Dan Mills. With music direction by Adam Podd, the five-member cast will feature Cole Burden, Van Hughes, David Larsen, Lauren Pritchard and Ali Stroker. David Abeles to Join THE GREAT COMET OF 1812 as 'Pierre,' Beginning 7/9

David Abeles (Once, Original Cast Member) will take over the role of 'Pierre' in the hit downtown production ofNATASHA, PIERRE & THE GREAT COMET OF 1812 beginning Tuesday, July 9th. Dave Malloy, the show's creator, will play his final performance as 'Pierre' Friday, June 21st, as he leaves to work on several new projects including commissions from LCT3, San Francisco's American Conservatory Theater, and the Youth Musical Theater Company in Berkeley, as well as upcoming shows at the Incubator Arts Project and The Bushwick Starr. From June 22nd through July 7th, the role of 'Pierre' will be played by Luke Holloway. (more...)

American Blues Theater to Present HANK WILLIAMS: LOST HIGHWAY, 8/30-10/6

Producing Artistic Director Gwendolyn Whiteside and American Blues Theater, Chicago's second oldest Equity ensemble, are proud to announce the first production in American Blues Theater's "Legends and Legacies" season, Hank Williams: Lost Highway, by Randal Myler and Mark Harelik, directed by Damon Kiely, music director Malcolm Ruhl and starring Matt Brumlow as "Hank Williams," August 30 - October 6, at the Greenhouse Theater Center's Downstage Mainstage Theater, 2257 N. Lincoln Ave. Tickets are $19 for previews, $29 Thursdays and Fridays and $39 Saturdays and Sundays and $49 for opening night. Lyric Theatre to Present BIG RIVER, 8/6-10

Lyric Theatre of Oklahoma will round out its 50th Anniversary summer shows with the presentation of Oklahoman Roger Miller's BIG RIVER. This country music tapestry will run August 6 through 10 at the Civic Center Music Hall, starring Alex John Enterline as Huck Finn and Broadway's Derrick Cobey as Jim. Based on Mark Twain's classic novel The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, BIG RIVER combines bluegrass music with moving gospel melodies. (more...)
