Lied Center Announces 2013-14 Season

The Lied Center for Performing Arts at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln has announced its 24th season of world-class performing artists. The season includes 51 performances of 31 shows from a wide range of genres including Broadway, classical music, dance, theater, world music and jazz, comedy, holiday performances, folk music and shows for families. BWW Blog: Gillian Abbott - Life as an Underclassman

In August, 2009 I was greeted by incredibly enthusiastic students on 65th Street between Broadway and Amsterdam. The Juilliard School: this was my new home and although my mom and sisters were overwhelmed by the welcoming committee, they knew I'd fit right in. Orientation lasted one week in which I met students from all over the world, set up my dorm room, and got use to downsizing from my two-bedroom apartment in Las Vegas. The school held several seminars to orient us, and organized outings to help us get our bearings in the city while having some fun before the Juilliard schedule took over our lives! (more...)

High school seniors of the University of North Carolina School of the Arts (UNCSA) got the graduation ceremony of their dreams on Saturday, May 18, when Disney Theatrical Group President Thomas Schumacher delivered their commencement address, and the diplomas were presented by 'Mary Poppins' herself: UNCSA alumna Rachel Wallace. The Joyce Theater Announces 2013-2014 Fall/Winter Season

The Joyce Theater (Linda Shelton, Executive Director), the United States' foremost dance venue, announced today programming for its 2013-2014 Fall & Winter Season featuring extraordinary companies, both international and local - several making their Joyce debuts - and loaded with highly anticipated premieres, including The Royal Ballet's production of Kafka's The Metamorphosis, choreographed by Arthur Pita especially for Royal Ballet Principal Edward Watson. Dance Against Cancer Raises More Than $96,000

The third annual Dance Against Cancer at the AXA Equitable Theater on Monday, May 6, 2013 raised more than $96,000 for the American Cancer Society. The evening began with cocktails at 6pm, a performance at 7pm, and a reception at 8:30pm. (more...)

Mark Ryder Original Choreography Grant Applications Now Available

Howard County Arts Council (HCAC) has announced that applications for the FY2014 Mark Ryder Original Choreography Grant Program are now available. This program was established at the bequest of Mark Ryder's family, in honor of his life's work, to recognize individual creative expression, and to provide financial assistance to choreographers to create new original work. A fund has been established at the Columbia Foundation to enable monies to be awarded for this purpose in perpetuity. The grant award recipients will be announced at HCAC's Annual Meeting and Grant Awards Ceremony in September 2013. The minimum grant amount will be $500. (more...)

NYC Parks' SUMMERSTAGE Series Will Begin 6/4

City Parks Foundation proudly announces the 2013 season of SummerStage presented by AT&T, New York's largest free performing arts festival, bringing over 100 free performances to seventeen parks throughout the five boroughs. With performances ranging from American pop, Latin and World music to dance, comedy and theater, SummerStage fills a vital niche in New York City's summer arts festival landscape. BREAKING NEWS: Lynn Ahrens & Stephen Flaherty's LITTLE DANCER to Premiere at Kennedy Center in October 2014!

The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts today announced it will produce the world premiere original musical production of Little Dancer featuring book and lyrics by Tony Award winner Lynn Ahrens, music by Tony Award winner Stephen Flaherty, and direction and choreography by five-time Tony Award winner Susan Stroman. The musical will begin performances in the Kennedy Center Eisenhower Theater in October 2014. Casting and additional details about Little Dancer will be announced at a later date. (more...)

RIOULT Dance NY, a leading American modern dance company with a classic sensibility, has announced its eight-performance New York Season June 4-9, 2013 at The Joyce Theater. The Season includes the World Premiere of Artistic Director/Choreographer Pascal Rioult's newest work, Iphigenia, a dance drama inspired by the Greek heroine of the same name from Euripides' 'Iphigenia in Aulis.' The piece was created in collaboration with Composer Michael Torke and features his newly commissioned score, which will be performed live by the Camerata New York Orchestra. The Season program also includes the critically acclaimed On Distant Shores (2011), the powerful Prelude to Night (2002), and one of the company's signature works, Bolero (2002).
