Julie Taymor to be Honored at the 2013 Elizabeth A. Sackler Center for Feminist Art First Awards at Brooklyn Museum

Award-winning theatre, opera, and film director Julie Taymor will be honored at the 2013 Elizabeth A. Sackler Center for Feminist Art First Awards at the Brooklyn Museum on June 13 from 6:30 to 9 p.m. The award, which honors women who have broken gender barriers to make remarkable contributions in their fields, will be bestowed on Taymor, winner of the Tony Award for Best Direction of a Musical in 1998. It will be presented by Museum Trustee Elizabeth A. Sackler and followed by a conversation between Taymor and feminist icon Gloria Steinem. (more...)

JOSEFINA LOPEZ, the award-winning playwright and screenwriter, best known as the creator of the play and the film, "Real Women Have Curves," will deliver the Commencement Address at Los Angeles High School for the Arts' (LACHSA's) 2013 Graduation Ceremony at Walt Disney Concert Hall, 111 South Grand Avenue, Los Angeles, CA 90012 on Friday, June 7, 2013, starting at2:00 p.m., it was announced today by LACHSA Principal George Simpson. El SUPER CLASICO Comes to Las Vegas in July

Latin Sports and Soccer United Marketing (SUM) announced the biggest rivalry in Mexican soccer, El Super Clasico (The Super Classic), featuring Club Deportivo Guadalajara and Club America, will be played in Las Vegas for the first time ever on Wednesday, July 3rd at Sam Boyd Stadium at 8 pm PT. La Jolla Playhouse Selects Teatro Mascara Magica as 2013-14 Resident Theatre Company

La Jolla Playhouse is proud to announce its 2013/2014 resident theatre company: Teatro Mascara Magica. Spearheaded by Playhouse Artistic Director Christopher Ashley, the Resident Theatre Program aims to encourage the artistic development of performing arts organizations, while advancing and contributing to the San Diego theatre scene as a whole. Long Beach Opera Announces 2014 Season: QUEENIE PIE, THE DEATH OF KLINGHOFFER & More!

Long Beach Opera's Artistic and General Director Andreas Mitisek announces the company's 2014 plans to produce five rarely performed 20th and 21st century, "Out Of Bounds," operas. The new season includes the Southern California premieres of Duke Ellington's "street opera" Queenie Pie and John Adams' controversial The Death of Klinghoffer; An American Soldier's Tale, Kurt Vonnegut 's provocative remake of Igor Stravinsky'sThe Soldier's Tale paired with Wynton Marsalis' jazz-driven A Fiddler's Tale; and a reprise of LBO audience favorite, David Lang's haunting The Difficulty of Crossing a Field. Three of the five composers-Adams, Marsalis and Lang-are actively contributing to today's music scene, while Stravinsky and Ellington made indelible marks on 20th century music. (more...)

Today, April 20, Navy SEALs will lead pairs of executive professionals and wounded warriors or adaptive athletes in a one and a half day SEALFIT inspired mental and physical training at Alamo CrossFit in San Antonio, Texas.
