Triple Shadow Brings 2 FROM THE SEA to La MaMa, 10/18-11/4

La MaMa E.T.C. presents the World Premiere of Triple Shadow's new theater production, 2 FROM THE SEA, composed of two solo adaptations of plays whose themes are based on stories of the sea: Holiday Memory by Dylan Thomas, performed by Seamus Maynard, and Riders to the Sea by John Millington Synge, performed by Mari Andrejco. Both are directed by Beth Skinner and feature live music composed and performed by Edward Herbst. Lighting design is by Bessie and Drama Desk-winner Paul Clay (RENT), and scenic design is by Obie Award-winner Jun Maeda. The three-week season runs October 18 through November 4 at La MaMa E.T.C., 74 East 4th Street, NYC. (more...)

WB & TCM to Launch Gene Kelly, John Wayne, & Paul Newman DVD Collections

Warner Home Video (WHV) and Turner Classic Movies (TCM) are adding four new collections to their TCM Greatest Classic Films line, which spotlights Hollywood's most legendary actors and actresses in classic cinema. Available June 18, the newest additions are: TCM Greatest Classic Films: Legends - Gene Kelly, starring one of the most dominant forces in Hollywood musicals during the mid-1940s; TCM Greatest Classic Films: Legends - John Wayne Action, featuring the Academy Award winner who landed Best Actor in a Leading Role for "True Grit" in 1970 and drew some of the top box offices for decades; TCM Greatest Classic Films: Legends - Paul Newman, starring the Academy Award winner who received the Oscar for Best Actor in a Leading Role for "The Color of Money" in 1987; and TCM Greatest Classic Films: Romantic Affairs, featuring some of the silver screen's most sizzling love interests including, Spencer Tracy and Katharine Hepburn, Carol Lombard, and Cary Grant. BWW Reviews: CTC's THE MERCHANT OF VENICE is Masterful, Gripping, Sharply Perceptive

Houston's Classical Theatre Company (CTC) has had one amazing season at their new home at Studio 101 in the Spring Street Studios. I was impressed by their productions of MISS JULIE and UBU ROI, but their production of THE MERCHANT OF VENICE deftly exposes the sincere theatrical talent that legends are made out of. As affair warning, because this brilliantly raw production is pared down to three actors and utilizes an abridged adaptation by CTC's dramaturg Shea Thomas Cooper, it won't hurt to re-familiarize yourself with the plot to ensure that you don't get lost in this stirring translation of the text. A Living Room Theater production, written and directed by Yi, Pretty Little Mouth will be performed on Monday, February 18th at 6pm, Thursday, February 21st at 7:15pm and Saturday, February 23rd at 2pm as part of John Chatterton's Short Play Midwinter Madness Festival.
