Harold Pinter's macabre tragicomedy returns to London's West End in this new production directed by Jamie Lloyd (Donmar's Passion, Broadway's Cyrano de Bergerac, National Theatre's She Stoops to Conquer, Royal Court's The Pride). It follows the critically acclaimed and sold out Macbeth, starring James McAvoy, in a thrilling season of work for Trafalgar Transformed. Fiona Shaw to Star in RIME OF THE ANCIENT MARINER at BAM's 2013 Next Wave Festival; Full Lineup Announced 5/21

According to The New York Times, the Brooklyn Academy of Music will announce its 2013 Next Wave Festival lineup tomorrow, May 21. The festival will feature 34 productions in dance, music theater and opera and runs September 17-December 22, 2013. Fiona Shaw will star in The Rime of the Ancient Mariner, directed by Phyllida Shaw. Kyle Donnelly Will Direct Arena Stages' OTHER DESERT CITIES

Hidden secrets are unearthed and family tensions fly high in Pulitzer Prize nominee Jon Robin Baitz's contemporary family drama Other Desert Cities. Helen Hayes Award winner and former Arena Stage Associate Artistic Director Kyle Donnelly returns to direct the D.C.-area premiere of the show with a cast that features Tony Award nominee and two-time Helen Hayes Award winner Helen Carey (Mary Tyrone in Arena Stage's Long Day's Journey into Night, Broadway's Hedda Gabler) as matriarch Polly Wyeth and two-time Tony Award nominee Larry Bryggman (Broadway's Harvey, CBS's As the World Turns) as patriarch Lyman Wyeth. Rounding out the cast are Emily Donahoe (Broadway's 33 Variations) as daughter Brooke Wyeth, Scott Drummond (Cherry Lane Theatre's A Perfect Future) as son Trip Wyeth and Martha Hackett (Pacific Resident Theatre's Nora) as their aunt Silda Grauman. The world premiere production of the Frank McGuinness adaptation of James Joyce's The Dead has begun rehearsal at Dublin's Abbey Theatre, under the direction of former Abbey and current Guthrie Artistic Director Joe Dowling. The Magistrate - Filmed live at Great Britain's National Theatre, broadcast by National Theatre Live, and presented by L.A. Theatre Works and the James Bridges Theater: Academy Award nominee and Tony Award-winner John Lithgow (Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Shrek, 3rd Rock from the Sun) takes the title role in Arthur Wing Pinero's uproarious Victorian farce, directed by Olivier Award-winner Timothy Sheader. With his dubious air and a developed taste for smoking, gambling, alcohol and women, it's hard to believe Cis Farringdon is only fourteen. And that's because he isn't. Agatha, his mother, dropped five years from her true age-and his-when she married amiable magistrate Posket. When her deception looks set to be revealed, it sparks a series of hilarious indignities and outrageous mishaps. In a similar vein to the National Theatre's smash-hit comedies, She Stoops to Conquer, London Assurance and One Man, Two Guvnors, The Magistrate sis sure to have audiences around the world doubled up with laughter. Music Box Theatre Screens THE MAGISTRATE, Starring John Lithgow, 1/23 & 2/10

The Music Box Theatre continues its partnership with the UK's National Theatre Live - produced by Northwestern University alum David Sabel - to exhibit live stage performances beamed to Chicago from the prestigious National Theatre in London. Academy Award nominee and Tony Award-winner John Lithgow (Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Shrek, This is 40) takes the title role in Arthur Wing Pinero's uproarious Victorian farce, The Magistrate, directed by Olivier Award-winner Timothy Sheader (Crazy for You and Into the Woods). The Chicago performances take place Wednesday, January 23, 7 p.m. and Sunday, February 10, 2 p.m. at the Music Box Theatre, 3733 North Southport Avenue. Tickets to National Theatre Live events are $15 in advance at the Music Box Theatre box office and online at www.musicboxtheatre.com/collections/national-theatre-live-presents; $18 at the door. The Guthrie Theater's production of Eugene O'Neill's Long Day's Journey into Night moves into the final week of its acclaimed run, with the performance of Helen Carey as Mary Tyrone earning accolades for its complexity and sympathetic power. Carey, an actor with an illustrious career spanning a Tony Award nomination, pivotal roles in Guthrie productions, stage credits in New York and the U.K., as well as numerous film and television credits, was termed "superb" in her latest role by the Minneapolis Star Tribune. Sam Alexander, Ian Burfield and More Set in New Cast of West End's ONE MAN, TWO GUVNORS

From 4 February 2013 a new cast will perform in Nicholas Hytner's five star West End production of One Man, Two Guvnors. As previously announced, Rufus Hound will take the lead as loveable chancer Francis Henshall. He will join new cast members Sam Alexander, Ian Burfield, Amy Cudden, Harry Kershaw, Kelly Price and Hugh Sachs. Martin Barrass will return to the production to play Alfie, and current cast members David Benson, Rhona Croker and Derek Elroy will continue. Mensah Bediako, Owen Brazendale, Gillian Budd, Max Hutchinson, Tom Lorcan, Aimee Parkes and Claire Sundin complete the ensemble. (more...)

The Guthrie Announces LONG DAY'S JOURNEY INTO NIGHT Casting

The Guthrie Theater today announced complete casting for its production of Eugene O'Neill's semi-autobiographical masterwork Long Day's Journey into Night. For the first time in its 50-year history, the Guthrie will present this Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning family drama under the direction of Artistic Director Joe Dowling. The production will star actors Peter Michael Goetz and Helen Carey in the roles of James and Mary Tyrone. James is an aging actor and Mary is his rambling, morphine-addicted wife-both struggle to helm a dysfunctional family racked by addiction, despair and festering guilt. (more...)
