PCPA Prepares for the 2013 Summer Season

PCPA Theaterfest's upcoming 2013 Summer Season - which runs from June 13 through September 29 - features an effervescent assortment of theatrical experiences including musicals, comedies and penetrating drama. With the Marian Theatre in the midst of renovations, the Severson Theatre will be the primary Santa Maria venue for two productions, while Solvang will host two transferring shows and two productions which will play exclusively in the outdoor Festival Theater. Harold Pinter's macabre tragicomedy returns to London's West End in this new production directed by Jamie Lloyd (Donmar's Passion, Broadway's Cyrano de Bergerac, National Theatre's She Stoops to Conquer, Royal Court's The Pride). It follows the critically acclaimed and sold out Macbeth, starring James McAvoy, in a thrilling season of work for Trafalgar Transformed. The Shakespeare Theatre Opens Season With THE PLAYBOY OF THE WESTERN WORLD

The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey will launch its 51st Season with J.M. Synge's classic The Playboy of the Western World. Performances begin May 29th and continue through June 23rd at the F.M. Kirby Shakespeare Theatre, 36 Madison Ave. (at Lancaster Road) in Madison. Individual tickets and discount ticket packages are now on sale and can be purchased by calling the box office at 973-408-5600 or by visiting www.ShakespeareNJ.org. Performances are Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Sundays at 7:30 p.m.; Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m.; and Saturdays and Sundays at 2 p.m. Individual tickets range from $35 to $70; student rush tickets are available 30 minutes prior to curtain for $15. Centenary Stage to Offer 2013 Summer Shakespeare Intensive

An Acting Shakespeare Master Class will be led by veteran stage and film actor, Randall Duk Kim, and veteran stage director, Anne Occhiogrosso this summer at the Centenary Stage Company. Under the direction of these two acclaimed teachers, students in the Acting Shakespeare Master Class will focus on developing acting skills through the 'Bard's' great literary works that will aid and empower actors embracing auditions as well as performances. This class is designed for high school seniors, college students, and adult actors wishing to enhance their skills in classical language and performance. (more...)

The Public Theater announced today that Kevin Kline will reprise his Tony Award-winning role of The Pirate King with Glenn Close as Ruth, Eric Idle as the Sergeant, and Martin Short as Major-General Stanley in the one-night-only concert performance of THE PIRATES OF PENZANCE for The Public's annual gala. Co-chaired by Sir Howard Stringer, Arielle Tepper Madover, and Renee Beaumont, this unforgettable summer evening will also honor the late Nora Ephron who was a long-time board member and consummate lover of The Public's Shakespeare in the Park. Lives of the Pigeons is by renowned poet Sherod Santos and is receiving its world premiere production at the side project under the direction of artistic director Adam Webster. An exploration of the shared origins of sword fighting and ballet, On Point will be presented on Monday June 3rd at The Liederkranz Club at 7:00PM. The Guthrie today announced that eight artists who have graced the Guthrie's stages during its 50-year history, from the first season in 1963 to the theater's current season, are slated to participate in the Guthrie's 50th anniversary on June 22, 2013. Exclusive interviews with the legendary Zoe Caldwell and Christopher Plummer will be unveiled as part of a poignant and celebratory multi-media tribute, while stage veterans Barbara Bryne, Peter Michael Goetz and Stephen Yoakam; two graduates of the University of Minnesota/Guthrie Theater B.F.A. Actor Training Program, Matthew Amendt and Valeri Mudek; and an alum of A Guthrie Experience for Actors in Training, Erik Heger; will perform live for the one-night-only event. (more...)

Colman Domingo and Forrest McClendon Join THE SCOTTSBORO BOYS in London

The Young Vic and Catherine Schreiber announced today that Colman Domingo and Forrest McClendon, stars of the original Broadway production, join the UK premiere of The Scottsboro Boys, directed by five-time Tony Award winner Susan Stroman. Colman played Private Harold Green in Steven Spielberg's multi-award winning epic Lincoln, and reprises his Tony Award nominated role of Mr. Bones, alongside fellow nominee Forrest McClendon who plays Mr. Tambo. Also joining the Young Vic cast fresh from Broadway are Christian Dante-White (Charles Weems) and Clinton Roane (Roy Wright). The original production garnered an incredible 12 Tony Award nominations including Best Musical and Best Director. (more...)
