Davis Gaines and Vicki Lewis Lead MACK & MABEL Benefit for Musical Theatre West

Paul Garman, Executive Director/Producer, has announced a benefit concert version of Jerry Herman's rarely performed musical MACK & MABEL presented by Musical Theatre West at the Carpenter Performing Arts Center for one night only, Monday, May 20 at 8pm. Jerry Herman, composer/lyricist of the musical theatre classics Hello, Dolly!, Mame, and La Cage aux Folles, famously declared that MACK & MABEL is his own favorite score, and the New York Times says, "the songs remain among the most felicitous in Mr. Herman's canon." Survey: American Flyers Willing to Pay More for Personal Space

As summer travel season approaches, Americans planning vacations particularly those planning on flying have a lot of decisions ahead. With the increasing 'a la carte'-ization of air travel, flyers are faced with an ever increasing number of choices as to what levels of comfort and convenience they want and are willing to pay for. Findings from a new Harris Poll show that among Americans who travel by commercial airline once or more per year, many are looking for personal space to stretch out in-flight, with 58% willing to pay for extra legroom on a longer flight (3+ hours) and over half (53%) willing to shell out to avoid the dreaded middle seat on such a flight. Amtrak Unveils Advanced Technology Locomotives for Northeast Service

A new era of more reliable and energy efficient Amtrak service for Northeast intercity rail passengers is coming down the tracks as the first of 70 advanced technology electric locomotives being built by Siemens begin rolling off the assembly line today. The first units of the $466 million order will be field tested this summer for entry into revenue service in the fall. (more...)

Shelley Brown to Receive Honorary Degree at Cedar Crest College's 143rd Commencement

Cedar Crest will present State Theatre President and CEO, Shelley Brown, with an honorary degree in humane letters at the 143rdCommencement ceremony this Saturday, May 11. This will be the second time Cedar Crest has recognized Brown's impressive career, having awarded her the 2008 Women in Business Award, given to a successful businesswoman who exemplifies the leadership, hard work and determination central to the Cedar Crest College mission. Free People to Open in Indianapolis

Free People will open the doors to its 78th boutique in The Fashion Mall at Keystone this Friday, March 22nd, 2013. Moving into the newly renovated space the 1,800 square foot boutique was designed to have a bohemian bungalow feel. Hand-carved wooden fixtures and cabinetry from India adorn soft plaster walls. The clean backdrop allows for an ever-changing merchandise assortment and seasonal displays to effortlessly interact with the space. (more...)

BWW Reviews: A Wonderfully Delightful MUCH ADO at Great Lakes Theater

Boy hates girl. Girl hates boy. Boy overhears that girl is secretly in love with boy; girl hears vice versa. Other boy and girl love each other, but something gets in the way of their happiness. That's the basic premise of MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING, which is now on stage at Great Lakes Theatre. Throw in a couple of interesting subplots, including an idiotic sheriff, a phony death, an irrational lover (is there any other kind?), and a vengeful half-brother, and you have the makings of one of William Shakespeare's best comedies. In fact, the fifth best of all of the Bard's plays, according to a renowned Shakespeare expert. (more...)
