BWW Reviews: THE ROAR OF THE GREASEPAINT Calls Out at Oyster Mill

Some shows are iconic, known by everyone - that would be LES MISERABLES. Others are iconic and not known, best identified by individual songs that everyone knows by heart, while many people know the songs and have no clue that they are show tunes. That would be THE ROAR OF THE GREASEPAINT, THE SMELL OF THE CROWD. Leslie Bricusse and Anthony Newley wanted to recreate their success in STOP THE WORLD - I WANT TO GET OFF, and the result was the show that gave us 'Who Can I Turn To?' Opening in England in 1964, the show was slight enough not to open in the West End, but David Merrick decided to give it a chance on Broadway. (more...)

BWW Reviews: TOMMY's Talented Cast Rocks the Stratford Festival

The Stratford Festival's production of TOMMY was arguably one of the most highly anticipated shows of this season. It marks Des McAnuff's return to the festival and to the 'rock musical' genre, and also marks the twentieth anniversary of the original production. With a cast of some of Canada's best and brightest, the show promised to blow the roof off the Avon Theatre and wow the audience with new sights and sounds. (more...)

MISS SAIGON Revival to Open in London in Late 2013; Co-Directed by Laurence Connor and James Powell

BroadwayWorld.com confirmed exclusively back in 2013 that a highly anticipated revival of the mega-musical Miss Saigon was in the works by producer Cameron Mackintosh with auditions taking place for the lead role of 'Kim' (a part created by Lea Salonga). Today, Michael Riedel reports in the New York Post that the show will open later this year, likely in Mackintosh's Prince Edward Theatre (currently home to Jersey Boys). Riedel also confirms our previous reports that co-directing the revival will be Laurence Connor and James Powell, who also co-directed the revival of Les Miserables that's now touring and which will hit Broadway in 2014.
