2012-2013 Emory Creative Writing Reading Series Announced

The Creative Writing Reading Series at Emory University kicks off Oct. 2 at 6:30 p.m. with two of the Creative Writing Program's postgraduate fellows in residence. Molly Brodak, Creative Writing Fellow in Poetry, and Harmony Neal, Creative Writing Fellow in Fiction, will give a joint reading of new work. A book signing will follow the reading. (more...)

The Collective Theatre presents its inaugural production: the Chicago premiere of Hoodoo Love by Olivier Award-winning playwright Katori Hall, directed by Nelsan Ellis, star of HBO's hit series True Blood. Hoodoo Love plays now through October 21, 2012 at the Athenaeum Theatre, 2936 N. Southport Avenue in Chicago. The production features Toni Lynice Fountain, LaRoyce Hawkins, Mark Smith and Lynn Wactor with Sam Bailey, Mark Hood, Opal Demetria Staples and Greg Williams. Musicians include Leon Q. THE MOUNTAINTOP Opens The Rep's Stiemke Studio Season

On the eve of his assassination, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., cools down in a lonely Memphis hotel room after delivering the speech of a lifetime - when an unexpected visit from a feisty, young hotel maid pushes King into a confrontation with his doubts, fears and haunting premonitions. A soul-stirring hit in London and on Broadway, The Mountaintop's humorous, magical storytelling fuses theatricality with spirituality to reach a summit that will leave audiences breathless. The Mountaintop is written by playwright Katori Hall and will be directed by Rep Artistic Associate May Adrales, who returns to The Rep after directing last season's critically-acclaimed production of Yellowman. The Mountaintop runs in The Rep's Stiemke Studio from September 26 - November 4, and opens Friday, September 28. (more...)

Robert O'Hara Will Direct Katori Hall's THE MOUNTAINTOP at Arena Stage

Katori Hall's Olivier Award-winning drama The Mountaintop comes to Arena Stage at the Mead Center for American Theater following an acclaimed run at the Alley Theatre in Houston, where it was hailed by the Houston Chronicle as "fast and funny, profoundly poignant, remarkably real and shimmeringly surreal." Obie Award winner Robert O'Hara (Public Theater's Wild with Happy) makes his Arena Stage directorial debut with The Mountaintop, which is produced in association with the Alley Theatre and runs March 29-May 12, 2013 in the Kreeger Theater.
