SAFETY LAST Begins 5/24 at the Music Box Theatre

Hailed as one of the great film comedies of all time, the 1923 romantic comedy Safety Last includes one of the most famous images from the silent film era: Harold Lloyd clutching the hands of a large clock as he dangles from the outside of a skyscraper above moving traffic. For four days only, the Music Box Theatre gives audiences the rare opportunity to experience this comedy classic in celebration of its 90th anniversary. Lloyd was crowned the king of daredevil comedy thanks to Safety Last and - after decades of chases, explosions and CGI - the film's death-defying stunts still have the power to send audiences reeling. Safety Last will be screened in a new digital restoration made from the original nitrate camera negative, Friday-Monday, May 24-27 at the Music Box Theatre, 3733 N. Southport Avenue. (more...)

Dee Dee Bridgewater Leads LADY DAY Musical at the Little Shubert Theatre

Multi-award-winning set designer Beowulf Boritt, along with noted costumes designer Patricia A. Hibbert, and acclaimed lighting designed by Ryan O'Gara will head the design team for the upcoming Billie Holiday musical "Lady Day" starring Tony and multiple Grammy Award-winner Dee Dee Bridgewater. With an opening set for Thursday, October 3rd(6:30PM) the production will take residence at Times Square's Little Shubert Theatre (422 West 42nd Street, between 9th and 10th Avenues). Written and directed by Stephen Stahl, the musical will make its New York debut having been produced at the Theatre de Boulogne-Billancourt and Theatre du Gymnase Marie Bell in Paris as well as The Donmar Warehouse and The Piccadilly Theatre in London, where it received critical praise and garnered an Olivier "Best Actress in a Musical" Award nomination for Ms. Bridgewater. Produced by Misty Road Productionsthe show's creative team also includes three-time Emmy Award winning composer & arranger Bill Jolly, who will serve as musical director. Metropolitan Museum's Main Building and Cloisters Observe Memorial Day as Final 'Met Holiday Monday'

After ten years of opening to the public on the Mondays of Holiday weekends, The Metropolitan Museum of Art and The Cloisters museum and gardens will observe the final 'Met Holiday Monday' on Memorial Day (May 27). The Museum's main building and The Cloisters, which is located in Fort Tryon Park in northern Manhattan, have traditionally been closed on Mondays.
