Mary Testa to Lead York's HOWLING HILDA Reading, 3/12

York Theatre Company and its Developmental Reading Series presents the reading of the new musical, Howling Hilda, with book and lyrics by Anne Berlin, and music by Andrew Bleckner will be directed by Valentina Fratti, with music direction by Timothy Splain, and featuring Mary Testa. The reading, free and open to the public with a reservation, is set for one-performance only on Tuesday, March 12th at 7:30 p.m. at The York Theatre Company at Saint Peter's (Entrance on East 54th Street, just east of Lexington Avenue). Following last year's Christmas sell-out run at the Green Carnation, Snow White and her Seven Poofs are back by popular demand for Easter with more rude flirty fun and frolics. This pop-powered drag panto is suitable for adults only and stars 2008 Drag Idol winner Tanya Hyde, who is returning to her role of Snow White for the third year, the hilarious Mrs. Moore as the Queen and Simon Gross returning to his role as Horrible Hilda. BWW Reviews: MIES JULIE, Riverside Studios, March 11 2013

Based on August Strindberg's 1888 play Miss Julie, Mies Julie transfers the action from a Count's estate in Sweden to a powerful (unseen) white farmer's house in modern-day post-apartheid South Africa. The bulk of proceedings concerns his daughter Julie (Hilda Cronje) and John (Bongile Mantsai), a young black man who has worked for the family with his mother Christine (Thoko Ntshinga) for many years. In an early conversation, Julie tells John her father will 'shoot the black man in the head that puts his hands on me', setting into motion a chain of events that seems doomed to end in despair. CENTERSTAGE Announces Honorees for 27th Annual Young Playwrights Festival

CENTERSTAGE has announced the honorees for this years' Young Playwrights Festival, an annual competition that welcomes student playwrights around the state to submit their original works. This year, more than 400 Maryland students in grades K-12 submitted plays. The honored plays that were selected will be showcased with workshops, in-school performances, and select pieces will be staged at CENTERSTAGE at the annual Young Playwrights Festival performance at CENTERSTAGE on Monday, May 6, at 7 pm.
