BWW Reviews: 9 to 5 THE MUSICAL - Broadway Palm Dinner Theatre
by Justin Cowan - Oct 13, 2012

9 to 5: The Musical, based on the popular 1980 film, tells the story of Consolidated Industries employees Doralee (Zoe Kassay), Violet (Erin Romero), and Judy (Amanda Kuchinski) as they struggle to be respected in a male dominated work place. Sexism and harassment abound until the three girls plot revenge on their boss, Mr. Hart (Galloway Stevens). Throw in some mayhem, an exciting score penned by Dolly Parton herself, and you're left with the above premise spread over two full acts clocking in at around 2 and a half hours with intermission. Tonight's American Idol was two hours even with only five contestants left (really, Idol?) leading to another week with two categories and some strong performances: the music of the 1960s and British pop. It'll certainly be a show on which some of them struggle on one category or the other, but who'll rise to the occasion with the help of guest judge Steven van Zandt? Find out now! (more...)

New River Fine Art Hosts Purvis Young Retrospective thru 4/22 in Ft. Lauderdale
by BWW News Desk - Mar 12, 2013

Purvis Young was considered the most important self taught contemporary artist to have emerged in the last 40 years. When he died in 2010, Bruce Weber wrote in his New York Times obituary that Purvis Young's work "… could be found in the collections of the Corcoran Gallery in Washington, D.C., the High Museum in Atlanta, and the Smithsonian American Art Museum." In fact, his art is part of the global collections of 60 museums. (more...)

BWW Reviews: BRIDGES - An Exploration of Chinese Culture Through interpretive Dance

Performed at the glorious Hawaii Theatre in historic, downtown Honolulu, Bridges explores the connections of past, present and future through interpretive Chinese folk dance. The Phoenix Dance Chamber featured this evening was founded by Diane Letoto, and inspired by folk dance specialist of the Beijing Dance Academy, the late Professor Liu Youlan. BWW Reviews: A.C.T.'s HIGHER Immerses Audiences in Architecture, Israeli Culture, and Grief
by Harmony Wheeler - Feb 6, 2012

An intense and captivating look at architecture, grief, and Israeli culture and history, Carey Perloff's "Higher," challenges audiences to look at their lives and consider why they do what they do. Produced by American Conservatory Theatre, the play - both dramatic and comedic - shows now through February 19 at The Theater at Children's Creativity Museum in San Francisco. The change in venue for this particular show brings audiences closer to the action. Although the play's fantastic script certainly makes it worthy of playing at the larger A.C.T. Theater, the smaller seating area does nothing to diminish the quality of the show. If anything, it makes viewers feel like they are a part of the story, like they have a stake in what happens.
