Broadway Scenic Designer Robert Brill Named La Jolla Playhouse's First Artist-in-Residenceby BWW News Desk - May 7, 2013La Jolla Playhouse announced today that nationally-renowned scenic designer Robert Brill has been named the theatre's inaugural Artist-in-Residence. This new, multi-month residency program, supported in part by a generous donation from Playhouse Director Emeritus Des McAnuff, is designed to give artists the freedom to focus on their ongoing body of work while becoming fully integrated into all aspects of the institution, from the stage to the boardroom to the classroom. In addition to designing the sets for His GirlFriday and Sideways this season, Brill will participate in the Playhouse's artistic planning, education and outreach activities, lead master classes at UC Dan Diego and serve as a community liaison for arts advocacy in San Diego, among other Playhouse activities. In the play by Emily Mann, the audience is invited to spend an evening with Sadie and Bessie, two VERY old ladies whose infectious charm and intelligence guides us through a century and a half of America's social history. Their recounting of family stories about the changes witnessed by the Delany family from slavery through the close of the

Four Local High School Students Receive Joseph Curka Playwrighting Prize at Young Playwrights Competitionby BWW News Desk - Apr 1, 2013Eight gifted students were honored at THE THEATER PROJECT'S eleventh annual Young Playwrights Competition Performance and Awards Ceremony on Saturday, March 16. The four prize winners received savings bonds and saw their work performed by the professional actors of THE THEATER PROJECT at the ceremony, held at the Cranford Community Center with the support of the Friends of the Cranford Library.
