Breaking News: 2014 ENCORES! Announced - LITTLE ME with Christian Borle, THE MOST HAPPY FELLA with Shuler Henlsey & IRMA LA DOUCE

The 2014 season of New York City Center's Tony Award-winning Encores! series will open with Little Me directed by John Rando and starring Christian Borle ('Smash,' Peter and the Starcatcher) on February 5, 2014. The season will continue with The Most Happy Fella, directed and choreographed by Casey Nicholaw and starring Shuler Hensley (Oklahoma!, The Whale), followed by Irma La Douce, directed by John Doyle. New Dramatists, Tony Honor recipient and the nation's premiere playwright development workshop, just honored entertainment lawyer and New Dramatists Chairman of the Board Seth Gelblum with their 2013 Lifetime Achievement Award at its 64th Annual Spring Luncheon tribute, earlier today, May 21 at the New York Marriott Marquis. Among those performing tributes were Tony Award nominee Keith Carradine (Hands on a Hardbody, The Will Rogers Follies) and Tony Award winner Tonya Pinkins (Caroline, or Change; Jelly's Last Jam). BWW Reviews: Hillbarn Provides A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC

It's fitting that Stephen Sondheim wrote "A Little Night Music" as one grand waltz. When Hillbarn Theatre's production of the musical opens, a semi-narrating chorus dances in the waltz and foreshadow the characters and events about to unfold. A young girl observes their dance, following her grandmother's advice to watch the sky for its smiles. We, too, will soon smile at the Follies of mankind. We will join the girl, a lively maid and a conservative student as they perceive and comment on those dancing around them. (more...)

SIGNS OF LIFE Gets Staged Reading at American University, 6/1-2

Snap-Two Productions, Inc. and LimanAde Productions in association with Issembert Productions, Inc. will present a staged reading of the new drama with music, Signs of Life, at American University in the Katzen Arts Center Studio Theatre on June 1 at 7:00 P.M. and June 2 at 1:00 P.M. The performances will feature American University alumni, current students and a student from BRAVO@KAT, the children's wing of Kensington Arts Theatre. The experience of SANTA'S STORY as a theatrical performance is thought-provoking, not only in regard to its subject matter but also as an exercise in theatre-making. UPDATE: Emily Blunt to Join INTO THE WOODS Film as 'The Baker's Wife'; Plus Christine Baranski as 'The Stepmother'?

As BroadwayWorld previously reported, Emily Blunt is in talks to join Disney's film adaptation of Stephen Sondheim's musical Into the Woods, directed by Rob Marshall. Now, sources have told The Wrap that that Christine Baranski, who was part of the original reading last October, is in talks to take on the role of Cinderella's evil stepmother. (more...)
