Red Bull Theater to Present THE DANCE OF DEATH American Premiere at Lucille Lortel Theatre, 4/10-5/4

Red Bull Theater will present the American Premiere of a new adaptation of August Strindberg's The Dance of Death by Mike Poulton (Tony Award Nominee for Best Play for Fortune's Fool), directed by Joseph Hardy (Tony Award winner for Best Director for Child's Play), for a strictly limited engagement beginning April 10th and continuing through May 4th only, at the Lucille Lortel Theater (121 Christopher Street, between Bleecker and Hudson Streets). The Winspear Opera House at the AT&T Performing Arts Center was the scene of a celebration this evening as The Dallas Opera Guild presented a rich variety of homegrown talent competing for top prizes in the 25th Annual 'Dallas Opera Guild Vocal Competition,' an on-stage showcase for young opera singers with Texas connections. LBP Mainstage Opens A FLEA IN HER EAR, Beginning 4/11

When Yvonne's husband, Victor, seems to lose interest in the carnal aspects of their relationship, her friend suggests that Victor might be finding satisfaction elsewhere. To test Victor's fidelity, Yvonne's friend convinces her to send a letter from an imaginary admirer suggesting a hotel assignation. Ernest Revell and Jacqueline Ballarin to Open 2013 Season at Enrico Caruso Room, 3/5

The Enrico Caruso Room at Grotta Azzurra Ristorante will begin its second season on Tuesday, March 5, 2013 with Tenor Ernest Revell and Soprano Jacqueline Ballarin as Opening Night headliners. Their performance in the historic grotto at Grotta Azzurra, 177 Mulberry Street in Little Italy, will begin at 8 PM. Noted Music Director David Schaefer will support them on the keyboard. (more...)

Canadian Opera Company Annouces 2013/2014 Season

The Canadian Opera Company unveiled its 2013/2014 season today at a press conference at the Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts. The company's 64th season stars the world's best singers, conductors, directors and designers in a performance year with seven operas, including three COC premieres and three new COC productions. The COC presents Giacomo Puccini's La Bohème with a new production featuring some of Canada's brightest stars; COC Music Director Johannes Debus makes his Benjamin Britten debut when he conducts Peter Grimes with a production starring acclaimed Canadian tenor Ben Heppner in the iconic title role; Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's Così fan tutte with a new COC production by renowned film and theatre director Atom Egoyan with Debus conducting; Giuseppe Verdi's Un ballo in maschera starring great Canadian diva Adrianne Pieczonka in a role debut; George Frideric Handel's Hercules with a COC premiere and new COC production by world-renowned director Peter Sellars with a star-studded cast; Gaetano Donizetti's Roberto Devereux with a COC premiere starring soprano Sondra Radvanovsky in a role debut; and Jules Massenet's Don Quichotte with a COC premiere featuring Debus in another conducting debut and the world's pre-eminent bass Ferruccio Furlanetto in the title role. Naia Kete of THE VOICE to Perform at Austin's Wildfire Festival, 3/7-9

Naia Kete of “The Voice” will be featured at Austin's Wildfire Reggae & Arts Festival, March 7-9 just a few days before the start of Austin's most famous music industry conference. Kete's mix of pop, reggae and soul is just one of the many different reggae music genres that can be experienced at the event, from hip-hop reggae, to rock reggae, folk reggae, roots, ska, dub and more. Other nationally-acclaimed artists featured will include Don Carlos, Gyptian, Marlon Asher and the Farmers, the Expanders, Mike Love, and Alex Marley. This year's festival, the largest reggae festival in Austin, will also showcase food, arts and crafts vendors from Texas and beyond, workshops and camping, in addition to the amazing music-in-nature experience. Red Bull Theater (Jesse Berger, Artistic Director) today announced that Derek Smith would join the cast for the American Premiere of a new adaptation of August Strindberg's The Dance of Death by Mike Poulton (Tony Award Nominee for Best Play for Fortune's Fool), directed by Joseph Hardy (Tony Award winner for Best Director for Child's Play). This strictly limited engagement begins Wednesday April 10th and continues through May 4th only, at the Lucille Lortel Theater (121 Christopher Street, between Bleecker and Hudson Streets). Opening Night is set for Thursday April 18th. Hardy directs a company that features Daniel Davis, Laila Robins, and Derek Smith. (more...)

Kate Burton, Tony Estrella, Joseph A. Chazan and Martha Douglas-Osmundson to Receive 2013 Pell Awards Honors

Trinity Repertory Company announced today that three local Rhode Island residents will be receiving Pell Awards this year in addition to Kate Burton, who had previously been announced as the recipient of the 2013 Pell Award for Lifetime Achievement in the Arts. The 17th annual Pell Awards will be held on Monday, June 10, 2013 at Trinity Rep with a reception to follow next door at the Providence Public Library. (more...)

Christopher Fitzgerald Headlines Chichester Festival Theatre's Revised BARNUM

Chichester Festival Theatre will unveil its temporary state-of-the-art auditorium, Theatre in the Park, with a major new production of the musical Barnum, presented in association with Cameron Mackintosh. The production will be co-directed by Timothy Sheader, Artistic Director of the Open Air Theatre Regent's Park and Liam Steel, with rising Broadway star Christopher Fitzgerald in the title role, alongside the award-winning Tamsin Carroll as Barnum's wife, Chairy.
