Matuto Releases THE DEVIL AND THE DIAMOND; Plays 6/20 Show at Lincoln Center

It's Carnival in Recife. It's Mardi Gras in New Orleans. And watch out: That just may be the Devil spinning through the drunken, dancing crowd, trying to get friendly with the saint in disguise, with the diamond in the rough. The rolling drums and quicksilver accordion licks, the earthy vibe and thoughtful reflections mingle on Matuto's latest refinement of their Appalachia-gone-Afro-Brazilian sound, The Devil and The Diamond (Motema Music; release: May 14, 2013). Photo Flash: PEEPSHOW's Surprise Onstage Proposal

Audience members were treated to a wonderful surprise as they were on-hand to witness the first onstage marriage proposal at PEEPSHOW at Planet Hollywood on May 18. Ensemble cast member Sophia Monica, who performs the "Teddy" number in Vegas' only striptease spectacular, in addition to filling in for the "Bo Peep" role when headliner Coco is out of the show, was caught off guard as her long-time partner and father of her son, Etienne Carreira bent down on one knee and proposed to her onstage in front of the PEEPSHOW cast and audience. Carreira is a professional break dancer and is also a trained dancer. To celebrate, Sophia also did an impromptu back flip (in heels) at the end, which made the audience go crazy with joy and excitement. Congrats to the newly engaged couple! (more...)

Disney Launches Casting Search in Southern California for Upcoming Series & Movies

Casting directors for series and movies for the kid- and family-targeted channels Disney Channel and Disney XD have begun a talent search throughout the greater Southern California area, visiting elementary, middle and high schools, performing arts schools and academies, dance studios and after school programs in search of new talent age 10-17. Led by casting directors Rosalinda Morales ('Bread and Roses,' 'La Misma Luna' aka 'Under The Same Moon') and Pauline O'con ('24'), the search is part of Disney Channel's and Disney XD's ongoing initiative to find, cast and develop diverse young actors, singers and dancers and provide them opportunities to showcase their talent across Disney platforms. 2013 CFDA Fashion Awards Shined in New York

School of American Ballet's Workshop Benefit Raises Over $820,000

The School of American Ballet's Workshop Performance Benefit 2013 at SAB on Tuesday, June 4, 2013 honored Peter Martins' and Kay Mazzo's 30th Anniversary with the School and raised more than $820,000 for scholarships and school programs. The evening began with cocktails at 5:30pm, followed by the presentation of Mae L. Wien Awards for Outstanding Service to Mr. Martins and Ms. Mazzo respectively by Kate D.
