Broadway at TPAC To Welcome THE LION KING & More for 2012-13 Season

Tennessee Performing Arts Center has announced the six Broadway titles visiting for its 2012-13 HCA/TriStar Broadway Series, plus two Broadway specials. In a presentation to season ticket holders, special guests, and press today, President and CEO Kathleen O'Brien unveiled the new season, which will conclude in 2013 with a four-week run of the Tony AwardŽ-winning hit Disney's The Lion King. The season includes beloved classics like Cole Porter's Anything Goes and Irving Berlin's White Christmas, the acrobatic off-Broadway smash Traces, plus new favorites Flashdance and Catch Me if You Can. BWW Reviews: CATCH ME IF YOU CAN Catches the Audience By Surprise

Catch Me if You Can really does catch the audience by surprise. The national tour of the musical, currently playing at the Fisher Theatre, is entertaining from start to finish. Based on a true story and a 2002 film of the same title by Steven Spielberg, it tells the tale of Frank Abagnale, Jr., who between the ages of 16 and 21, forged and cashed $2.5 million worth of bad checks in the United States and other countries. The show begins at the end then retells the story of what Frank, Jr. did and the FBI officer who chased him and eventually caught him. (more...)

Joey Contreras Named Broadway Dreams Foundation's Artist in Residence; New Initiatives Announced

The Broadway Dreams Foundation announced their dedication to three educational initiatives that align with their mission and will offer BDF students exciting performance opportunities while also supporting emerging artists and creative projects. The three initiatives include a sophomore album by musical theater songwriter Joey Contreras, the development of a new musical, and a showcase featuring BDF students from across the country at NYC's New World Stages. BENJ PASEK and JUSTIN PAUL have added a second show at Joe's Pub at The Public on Wednesday, May 15. An 11:30 PM show was just added due to popular demand after the 9:30 PM show sold out. The Tony Award nominated composer and lyricist team is celebrating the new Ghostlight Records cast recording of Dogfight. Both shows will features performances by the original cast of the Second Stage Theatre production and other special guests. Dogfight just won the 2013 Lucille Lortel Award for "Outstanding Musical."
