Closing Aurora Theatre Company's 21st season is the Bay Area Premiere of Neil LaBute's dark, edgy comic drama THIS IS HOW IT GOES, directed by Aurora Theatre Company Artistic Director Tom Ross (A Delicate Balance). Ross helmed LaBute's The Shape of Things, the first LaBute play produced in the Bay Area, in 2003. Featuring Aldo Billingslea (Collapse), Gabriel Marin (Collapse, Jack Goes Boating), and Carrie Paff (A Delicate Balance, Collapse, Betrayal), THIS IS HOW IT GOES presents a one-two punch after LaBute's Fat Pig (staged at Aurora in 2009). Closing African-American Shakespeare Company's 2012-13 season is William Shakespeare's THE MERRY WIVES OF WINDSOR, directed by Becky Kemper. THE MERRY WIVES OF WINDSOR reunites audiences with the ever-merry, ever-scheming character Sir John Falstaff from Shakespeare's history plays King Henry IV, Part 1 and King Henry IV, Part 2, this time at the center of a comedy of his own. THE MERRY WIVES OF WINDSOR plays tonight, May 4 through May 26 (press opening: May 4) at the Buriel Clay Theater at the African American Art and Culture Complex in San Francisco. Early on in Little Shop of Horrors, the crowd favorite musical now playing at the Sheldon Vexler Theatre, forlorn florist Seymour Krelborn begs his strange and interesting but dying new plant, dubbed the Audrey II, to bloom. The same pleas could be asked of the show. While bolstered by some talented and gifted performers, this production sadly remains a seedling that doesn't completely sprout. (more...)

BWW Reviews: Austin Playhouse Stages Riotous Comedy NOISES OFF

There is an old adage in the theater: "Dying is easy. Comedy is hard." Comedy is certainly harder when the material is Noises Off, the ridiculously funny farce by Michael Frayn which was named "One of the Funniest comedies ever written" by the New York Post. Still, if the cast and crew at the Austin Playhouse had any difficulty with the neo-classic comedy, it certainly doesn't show. Their polished production is uproariously funny with each moment better than the last. (more...)

The Arc Theatre's TWELFTH NIGHT Opens 7/13

The Arc Theatre returns to Ridgeville after three successful years to present its fourth show in residence at "Shakespeare on the Ridge" in Evanston: "Twelfth Night." "Twelfth Night" will be performed July 13th through August 4th, 2013, Saturday and Sunday evenings at 7pm at Ridgeville Park, 908 Seward St in Evanston, IL. Admission is free.
