Opera San Jose Closes Season with FAUST, 4/21-5/6by BWW News Desk - Mar 2, 2012Opera San José continues its 28th season with Gounod’s Romantic-era masterpiece, Faust. Inspired by Goethe’s legendary story of the old scholar who sells his soul to the devil for eternal youth, Faust is one of the most performed operas of all time. Opera San José founding music director, David Rohrbaugh, conducts with stage direction by Brad Dalton, who recently directed Opera San José’s company premiere of Mozart’s Idomeneo. Faust will be sung in French with English supertitles. Eight performances are scheduled from April 21 through May 6 at the California Theatre, 345 South First Street in downtown San José. Anna Christie will run through April 15, 2012 in the Sheryl and Harvey White Theatre, part of the Globe's Conrad Prebys Theatre Center. Preview performances run through March 14. The Main Stage Season will kick off with a production of Oscar Wilde’s classic The Importance of Being Earnest as you’ve never seen it before, directed by Tony Award-winner David Hyde Pierce (an alum of the Festival’s training programs, making his WTF directorial debut), playing from June 26 – July 14, 2012. A new translation of Ivan Turgenev’s A Month in the Country, directed by Tony Award-winner Richard Nelson (James Joyce’s The Dead) has also been added to the Main Stage line-up, from August 1 – August 19, 2012. Judy Kuhn and Melissa Errico Set to Lead PASSION at Classic Stage Company in 2013by BWW News Desk - Apr 19, 2012Classic Stage Company, under the leadership of Artistic Director Brian Kulick and Executive Director Greg Reiner announced today that acclaimed/awarding winning actresses Judy Kuhn and Melissa Errico will star as Fosca and Clara in the company’s new production of Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine’s Tony Award-winning musical PASSION, to be directed by John Doyle (the Tony Award-winning revivals of Sondheim’s Sweeney Todd and Company). PASSION is slated to begin performances in February, 2013. Additional casting will be announced in the coming weeks and months, as well as full creative team.
