The Shelter - a ensemble of theatrical artists - will conclude their fourth season with the world-premiere of LILY & KOSMO LIVE, a new play the blends the exciting adventure of "Buck Rogers" and 1950s radio space operas with the youthful mischief of "Our Gang" and The Little Rascals talkies, written and directed by Jonathan Ashley with preview performances beginning June 20th, 2013 prior to an official press opening of June 23rd at the Connelly Theater (220 East 4th Street) in Manhattan. Michael Feinstein's Great American Songbook Vocal Competition Set for 6/1 in Chicago

High school vocalists from Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, Illinois and Missouri will compete on Saturday, June 1 at a regional for the Great American Songbook Vocal Academy & Competition. Sponsored by the Michael Feinstein Great American Songbook Initiative, the annual endeavor is the only U.S. competition dedicated solely to the music from Broadway, Hollywood musicals and the Tin Pan Alley era of the early to mid-twentieth century. Mercury Theater Chicago Offers Free Kids Tickets at BARNUM

Kids aged 7 to 14 will receive a free ticket with the purchase of each adult ticket for weekday performances of the circus musical BARNUM at Mercury Theater Chicago, 3745 N. Southport, running through June 16, 2013. To redeem, visit the box office or call 773-325-1700. Throughout the toe-tapping musical, the glitz and grandeur of the circus is brought to life on Mercury Theater Chicago's intimate stage. 14 actors entertain the audience with 24 rapid-fire costume changes and perform over 14 breathtaking head-over-heels acrobatic tricks featuring 18 juggling balls, 12 juggling scarves, 9 juggling balls, 2 Spanish webs and 1 circus lyra. 6 musicians create the rousing sound of the Big Top with 12 instruments, and 2 stilt walkers tower over the audience. 100 bricks are used to construct the historic American Museum. 3 sassy wooden poodles parade across the stage, along with 1 magnificent tiger and 1 larger-than-life elephant puppet. BWW Blog: Amy Parrish - Sharing and Growing

This week I'm working in St. Louis for a photographic conference called After Dark. I use the word 'working' very loosely. As someone who makes a living from being creative, it's not difficult to find yourself so focused on the work of your art that you sometimes forget about playfulness. That, intermingled with education, is what After Dark is all about. 'Classes' often run to 2-3am as groups of photographers take a model and wander the hotel grounds, experimenting with all sorts of techniques that they may not take the time to explore in their day to day businesses. BoHo Theatre to Stage HAUPTMANN, 3/22-4/21

BoHo Theatre presents Hauptmann, an examination of truth and media indictment, by lauded Chicago playwright John Logan. The production runs March 22nd through April 21st at the Heartland Studio in Rogers Park. Hauptmann is directed by Founding Artistic Director Stephen M. Genovese, who directed the critically acclaimed BoHo productions of The Rainmaker, The Glorious Ones, Sideshow, and I Am My Own Wife. The production features Jeremy Trager in the role of Richard Hauptmann. Trager was recently seen in BoHo's productions of The Spitfire Grill and Tartuffe. Hauptmann represents the Bohemian Pillar of Truth in BoHo's 2012/2013 Season. (more...)
