BWW Reviews: Bayou City Concert Musicals' ALONE TOGETHER: THE MUSIC OF ARTHUR SCHWARTZ is a Magically Enchanting Cabaret

Paul Hope's Bayou City Concert Musicals (BCCM) is proudly continuing their mission of bringing to Houston the best of the best from show business' yesteryears. Sometimes it is in the form of a forgotten or neglected musical, like their concert stagings of ONE TOUCH OF VENUS, THE SECRET GARDEN, and FINNAN'S RAINBOW. At other events, Paul Hope stages a cabaret of a composer's hits and erstwhile gems. Last Monday, BCCM premiered their cabaret entitled ALONE TOGETHER: THE SONGS OF ARTHUR SCHWARTZ. Arthur Schwartz composed for the Broadway productions THE BAND WAGON, A Tree Grows in Brooklyn, and others. He was also a celebrated Hollywood composer, writing music for THANK YOUR LUCKY STARS, the film adaptation of THE BAND WAGON, and others. (more...)

Chicago Shakespeare Launches 2013/14 Season with Gala 2013 Celebration in June

Chicago Shakespeare Theater (CST) launches the 2013/14 Season with Gala 2013 on June 17 at its home on Navy Pier. Funds raised will benefit the Regional Theatre Tony Award recipient's education and civic engagement initiatives, including Team Shakespeare and Chicago Shakespeare in the Parks. Through the generosity of Gala Lead Sponsor the Donna Van Eekeren Foundation, the support of the Gala 2013 Host Committee, and the advocacy of CST's Board of Directors, the Theater anticipates raising over one million dollars in support of its continuing work in Chicago's schools and communities. A highlight of the evening will be the presentation of the third annual Spirit of Shakespeare Awards. This year's Civic Honoree is former Mayor Richard M. Daley and the Artistic Honoree is composer/lyricist Stephen Sondheim. Both honorees will be in attendance to accept their award. Gala 2013 will also feature performances by Broadway stars Jason Danieley, who triumphed in CST's production ofSunday in the Park with George earlier this season, and Marin Mazzie, who was recently seen opposite Danieley in the Pulitzer Prize-winning Broadway musical Next to Normal. BREAKING NEWS: HONEYMOON IN VEGAS Musical to Premiere at Paper Mill Playhouse Prior to Spring 2014 Broadway Opening!

According to an Equity casting notcice, the new musical HONEYMOON IN VEGAS, which was initially scheduled to premiere in Toronto last Fall, will open at New Jersey's Paper Mill Playhouse in September. The show will run September 26 through October 27 2013 and is expected to transfer to Broadway in Spring 2014. (more...)

The full cast of Jonathan Brielle's new musical Himself and Nora has been announced. Joining the previously announced Matt Bogart, Jessica Burrows and David Arthur are Cole Burden (25th Anniversary Production Les Miserables) and Lianne Marie Dobbs (A Tree Grows in Brooklyn). The show comes direct from its success at the 2012 New York Musical Theatre Festival. Previews begin tonight, April 24 with opening night slated for April 27. (more...)
