Photo Flash: Sneak Peek at The Met's PUNK: CHAOS TO COUTURE, Opening 5/9

The Met's spring 2013 Costume Institute exhibition, PUNK: Chaos to Couture, runs from May 9, 2013 to August 14, 2013. It will examine punk's impact on high fashion from the movement's birth in the early 1970s through its continuing influence today. Featuring approximately one hundred designs for men and women, the exhibition will include original punk garments and recent, directional fashion to illustrate how haute couture and ready-to-wear borrow punk's visual symbols. Natalie Toro, NJ Youths Celebrate Cinco de Mayo Tomorrow, 5/5

Latina Broadway star Natalie Toro, best known for originating the role of Madame Therese Defarge in Jill Santoriello's stage adaptation of 'A Tale of Two Cities,' a novel by Charles Dickens, and for playing the tragic heroine Eponine in Claude-Michel Schonberg and Alain Boublil's stage adaptation of 'Les Miserables,' a novel by Victor Hugo, will join the young students at Collective Youth Theatre Company, an educational program of Jersey Arts Collective, to celebrate Cinco de Mayo, a festival of Mexican heritage and pride, via a concert at Westminster Arts Center tomorrow, May 5, at 3 p.m. (more...)

Villanova Theatre to End 2012-13 Season with SALOME, 4/9-21

Villanova Theatre's 2012-2013 culminates with an electrifying production of Salome, written by Oscar Wilde, directed by Rev. David Cregan, OSA, and on stage April 9 - 21, 2013. The linguistic genius behind The Importance of Being Earnest plunges us into the visceral, intoxicating world of King Herod and his enticing young stepdaughter, Salome. After being rejected by John the Baptist, Salome's unbridled desire for the pious prophet quickly turns into an uncontrollable lust for revenge. Wilde's sensational adaptation of this biblical tale dramatizes the eternal struggle between body and soul. Cregan's inspired production will feature stunning aerial dance, live drumming and chant, and a striking, elemental set design. (more...)

Planet Connections Theatre Festivity to Stage New Musical WALDEN, 5/29-6/23

The Planet Connections Theatre Festivity presents Walden, a story-theatre style musical adaptation of Thoreau's best seller, featuring his work on the underground railroad and his star-crossed romance. Six performances for Walden will be held at the Robert Moss Theatre, 440 Lafayette Street, NYC from May 29-June 15 as part of The Planet Connections Theatre Festivity. Christine Baranski, Kelli Barrett, Walter Bobbie, Jeremy Cohen, Dalton Harrod, Randy Skinner, Shonn Wiley, Karen Ziemba,New York City Ballet Principaldancer Joaquin De Luz and American Ballet Theatre principal dancer Irina Dvorovenkowill star in Rodgers and Hart's On Your Toes, the final Encores! presentation of the 2012-13 New York City Center season. Directed and choreographed by Warren Carlyle, On Your Toes will have guest music direction by Encores! founding music director Rob Fisher and will play seven performances, from May 8 - 12 at New York City Center, W. 55th Street (between 6th and 7th Avenues). The "Slaughter on Tenth Avenue" ballet, originally choreographed by George Balanchine, will be staged by Susan Pilarre, who served as a Ballet Mistress of the show's 1983 Broadway Revival. (more...)
