Invigorating music, impressive choreography, and unexpected hilarious humour are a few things that THE BOOK OF MORMON brought to its tour stop in Vancouver with Broadway Across Canada. With its original opening number, 'Hello', audiences were greeted with enthusiastically wide grins and high-energy singing during Wednesday night's performance at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre on September 26th. Whether it was your first time seeing the show or your fourth, it was guaranteed you left the show feeling satisfied and pleasantly surprised at the same time!

An exuberant blend of toe-tapping hits and raunchy comedy, The Book of Mormon knocked on the door of Broadway's Eugene O'Neill Theatre in 2011, later receiving 9 Tony Awards including the coveted title of Best Musical. Written by South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone along with Avenue Q co-writer Robert Lopez, this flamboyant mega-hit pokes fun at Mormonism and musicals in general, daring audiences not to be swept away by a riptide of crude humour and blatant social commentary.

Chris Rice, a current swing in the Broadway company of 'The Book of Mormon' had no idea that when he uploaded his tap rendition of Anna Kendrick's 'Cup Song' on YouTube it would go viral, three years later is has accrued over three million views. I was lucky enough to chat with him during an evening he was not swinging in about his current choreography project featured in 'Broadway Backwards' a fundraiser to benefit Broadway Cares: Equity Fights Aids and the LGBT center in Manhattan, also teasing his newest dance video.

Time flies at the Eugene O'Neill! Today, stars from THE BOOK OF MORMON, including Nic Rouleau (Elder Price), Christopher John O'Neill (Elder Cunningham), and Nikki Renee Daniels (Nabulungi), celebrated five years on Broadway at the top of the Empire State Building. The company 'flipped the switch' to make the world-famous tower lights shine in white and orange for the special occasion. Candace Quarrels' story is one of those hard-to-believe show business tales that is likely to resonate with so many people, for so long, that it might become legendary in time. In fact, it may be the modern day equivalent to the age-old tale of a young, sweater-clad Lana Turner being discovered at a lunch counter in Schwab's drugstore in L.A. (back in the day when aspiring starlets had lunch at drug store soda fountains) and being transformed into a movie star - who, interestingly enough (especially for this story), became a legend.
