Green Day won two Grammy Awards for the groundbreaking rock opera American Idiot, which sold more than 12 million copies worldwide. Now Billie Joe Armstrong and the band collaborate with one of the theatre's most acclaimed creative teams, led by the Tony Award-winning director of Spring Awakening, Michael Mayer, two-time Tony Award-winning composer and orchestrator Tom Kitt, and Olivier Award-winning choreographer Steven Hoggett, to bring this explosive, iconic album to the stage.

Actors' Equity Association announced today that Green Day's AMERICAN IDIOT has been selected as the recipient of its Extraordinary Excellence in Diversity on Broadway Award for the 2009-2010 Season. The Diversity Award will be presented at a reception at the Equity headquarters in New York City on Tuesday, June 15, 2010.

The appearance featured Tony Award winner John Gallagher Jr., Tony Award Nominee Stark Sands, Michael Esper, Rebecca Naomi Jones, Christina Sajous, and Mary Faber as well as Declan Bennett, Andrew Call, Gerard Canonico, Miguel Cervantes, Brian Charles Johnson, Leslie McDonel, Chase Peacock, Theo Stockman, Ben Thompson, Alysha Umphress, Sean Wing and Libby Winters.

Last week on April 20, 2010, Actor's Equity's David Westphal hosted the famed Gypsy Robe Ceremony for company members of AMERICAN IDIOT at the St. James Theatre. A long-standing opening night tradition on the Great White Way, the fabled Gypsy Robe is bestowed upon a veteran Broadway chorus member for each opening production. In what has now become a theatrical ritual, originating on Broadway 60 years ago, LA CAGE AUX FOLLES chorus member Dale Hensley turned over the robe to AMERICAN IDIOT cast member Andrew Call. BroadwayWorld was there for the celebration.

For the next week, each day, hosts Regis Philbin and Kelly Ripa will feature the seasons most exciting shows, with the hosts themselves taking part in some of the productions. For the show's musical guests today, AMERICAN IDIOT stars John Gallagher Jr., Michael Esper and Stark Sands performed the show's rendition of 'Wake Me Up When September Ends.'
