Many stage to screen announcements were made in January, and we're here to catch you up on all the news. It was announced that 'Be Prepared' will be included in the live action version of THE LION KING, Alan Menken and Stephen Schwartz are working on a live-action HUNCHBACK OF NOTRE DAME, and Corey Hawkins has been cast as Benny in the upcoming IN THE HEIGHTS film.

WhatsOnStage today announce that Vicky Vox and Kobna Holdbrook-Smith will present the 19th annual WhatsOnStage Awards on 3 March 2019 at the Prince of Wales Theatre. Both hosts are nominated at this year's event - Vox for Best Supporting Actress in a Musical for her performance in Regent's Park Open Air Theatre's Little Shop of Horrors; and Holdbrook-Smith for Best Actor in a Musical for his performance as Ike Turner in Tina - The Tina Turner Musical at the Aldwych Theatre.

Following an exhilarating 2018-19 season, Hillbarn Theatre, the Peninsula's premier theatre company, announced the productions that will comprise its 2019-20 season. Highlights include the hilarious maritime musical, ANYTHING GOES; the satirical farce, IT'S ONLY A PLAY; the Tony Award-winning musical, NEWSIES; the Broadway sci-fi cult musical, LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS; the sidesplitting play, LAUGHTER ON THE 23RD FLOOR; and the critically-acclaimed musical, LA CAGE AUX FOLLES. Hillbarn Theatre closes its season with the world premiere play THE FOUR GIFTS, based on the memoir of San Mateo local Fr. Joseph Bradley. Theater Resources Unlimited (TRU) announces Seeing Red by Joey Mazzarino and Aron Accurso, starring Kerry Butler and Directed by Jenn Thompson and presented by Laura Kriete-Bain as part of the 2019 TRU Voices New Musicals Reading Series on February 4, 2019 at 7pm at the Actors Temple, 339 West 47th Street, NYC. Jed Bernstein, Producing Director of Theatre Aspen, announced today that Yasmina Reza's Tony Award-winning play God of Carnage, directed by Karen Azenberg (Artistic Director of Salt Lake City's largest non-profit, Pioneer Theatre Company) will round out the 2019 Summer Season. God of Carnage joins the previously announced Tony Award-winning musical Guys and Dolls, directed by Tony Award nominee Hunter Foster and choreographed by Lisa Shriver, Little Shop of Horrors, directed by Carbonell Award winner Mark Martino, and the Theatre Aspen Summer Conservatory's student production of The Wizard of Oz, all at the Hurst Theatre.

January, 2019 is a big month for Jennifer as the Rent: Live performance is January 27th on Fox and the BroadwayHD streaming of 'A Night with Janis Joplin' began January 19th where Jennifer performs as the 'Blues Singer.'

Following the recent news that a fire had destroyed the entire set of their touring production on New Year's Eve, London Classic Theatre are pleased to announce that the extension of the UK tour of Charlotte Keatley's My Mother Said I Never Should will go ahead as planned. Kathryn Ritchie returns to play Jackie Metcalfe and will be joined by Rebecca Birch (Rosie Metcalfe), Lisa Burrows (Margaret Bradley) and Judith Paris (Doris Partington). Artistic Director of LCT, Michael Cabot, directs the production, which tours to a further 14 venues in 2019. The tour starts at New Theatre Royal Portsmouth on 6 February, with performances in Newtown, Ipswich, Doncaster, Middlesbrough, Richmond, Derby, Poole, Winchester, Worthing, Epsom, Swansea and Oldham before concluding at the Yvonne Arnaud Theatre, Guildford in April. Press night will take place on Wednesday 27 February at Richmond Theatre.

Actors Bridge Ensemble's acclaimed production of Sarah DeLappe's The Wolves and Cumberland County Playhouse's rendition of Stephen Sondheim and Hugh Wheeler's Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street were named as the top shows of the year during Midwinter's First Night, the annual tribute to theater in Tennessee, held at Nashville's The Larry Keeton Theatre last Sunday night, January 13. Trinity Repertory Company invites the public to nominate outstanding local artists for the 2019 Rhode Island Pell Awards for Excellence in the Arts. The Pell Awards' criteria include distinction in the artist's chosen field, work that significantly advances the art form and contribution to the betterment of the community, and the world at large through artistic presence and community service. Awards will be presented at the theater's gala event on Monday, June 3, 2019 at the WaterFire Arts Center in Providence.

Fresh off a successful run of Ain't Too Proud at Berkeley Repertory Theatre, Jahi Kearse returns to B Street to play Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in the original production Martin Luther King Jr. & The Sound of Freedom as the first play of the 2019 Family Series. Kearse plays Motown founder and record executive Berry Gordy in Ain't Too Proud, a hit new musical about the life and times of The Temptations. Immediately following Sound of Freedom Kearse will join his Ain't Too Proud castmates in New York City for a Broadway run of the musical at the Imperial Theatre, reprising his role as Gordy.

Queensbury Theatre is proud to announce the cast for the world premiere of Breaking Out of Sunset Place, playing January 24 - February 10, 2019.

Skylight Music Theatre announced the cast and creative team for Five Guys Named Moe, a joyful, jazzy tribute to Louis Jordan, the 1940s rhythm and blues singer, songwriter and bandleader.

Birmingham Stage Company today announces the full cast for their production of Tom Gates, written by Liz Pichon. Neal Foster directs Matthew Chase (Tom Gates), Ashley Cousins (Marcus/Granny), Matthew Gordan (Derek/Grandad), Amy Hargreaves (Amy/Delia), Daniel Harkin (Mr Fullerman/Dad) and Alice Redmond (Mum). The production opens on 20 March with previews from 14 February, and tours until 30 November 2019.

Nadine Malouf, graduate of the Franklin School for the Performing Arts (FSPA), has been selected as one of Lincoln Center in New York City's "Emerging Artists" for 2019. Malouf has starred in two Lincoln Center productions: last season's qUEENS and 2014's The Who and the What, both at LCT3. Recipients are chosen by one of Lincoln Center's resident organizations in acknowledgement of their extraordinary talent and promising careers in the performing arts.

The Winter Park Playhouse opens their Spotlight Cabaret Series new year with double the fun, as both Lindsay Nantz and Kate Zaloumes premiere a new cabaret, Better Together!  January 16 and 17, 2019.

Philadelphia Theatre Company announces the director and full cast for the Philadelphia premiere of Marsha Norman and Jason Robert Brown's sweeping musical version of the best-selling novel, The Bridges of Madison County. The production is the second of the inaugural season under Producing Artistic Director Paige Price. For Bridges, Price has tapped Mark Martino to direct a cast rich with local theatre stars and Barrymore Award-winners, alongside actors with notable national and Broadway credits. The cast is led by Philadelphia actress Sarah Gliko and PA Native and Broadway actor Gregg Goodbrod.  Recent Barrymore Award winner Amanda Morton (Passing Strange, Wilma Theater) will serve as the Music Director. The Bridges of Madison County runs February 8-March 3, 2019 at Philadelphia Theatre Company's stage at the Suzanne Roberts Theatre, 480 S. Broad Street.
