Signature Theatre announces the full cast and creative team for the DC premiere of The Scottsboro Boys directed by Signature Theatre's Director of New Works Joe Calarco (Signature's Jesus Christ Superstar, Gypsy) and choreographed by Jared Grimes (Signature's Jelly's Last Jam). John Kander and Fred Ebb's final musical collaboration premiered on Broadway in 2010 and was heralded as 'an absolute marvel' by The Associated Press. The Scottsboro Boys is centered around nine young African-American teenagers who were ripped off a train in 1931, falsely accused of a crime, hastily tried and sentenced to death in an outrageous disregard of due process. The Scottsboro Boys will run from May 22 - July 1 in Signature Theatre's intimate MAX Theatre.

On this day in 1993, the legendary Chita Rivera returned to Broadway in the musical Kiss of the Spider Woman.

On this day in 1998, Roundabout's sumptuous revival of Kander and Ebb's Cabaret opened on Broadway starring Alan Cumming and Natasha Richardson.

As magical as the evening was, after Freddie Gershon gave an impassioned presentation to the duo, Harvey Schmidt and Tom Jones hit the stage and brought the house down at ages 88 and 89 respectively. They joined forces onstage to perform a song from their musical The Bone Room, described by Jones as being about 'the pleasures of dying and being embalmed in this great country of ours.' Today we set our sights on the razzle dazzle Broadway revival of Chicago, which opened on this day in 1996.

FEINSTEIN'S/54 BELOW, Broadway's Supper Club, presented the 30th Anniversary of No Way to Treat a Lady. A laugh-filled evening featuring songs from the Richard Rodgers Award winning musical by Douglas J. Cohen, based on the novel by William Goldman (The Princess Bride). MAC Award winner KLea Blackhurst (Hello, Dolly!, Goodspeed) and author Cohen co-host the event which will feature many of the performers from past productions, both off-Broadway at the York Theatre and Hudson Guild, and regionally (Florida Studio Theatre, Village Theater, Barrington Stage, TheaterWorks in Hartford, Coconut Grove in Florida, Colony Theater in L.A.), as well as photographs and footage from over a dozen international productions. Cohen will also reveal some of the show's unique history behind the scenes.
