BWW Reviews: THE PRODUCERS at Village Theatre
by Jay Irwin - May 11, 2012
Its difficult when you have an iconic show to work with such as The Producers currently playing at Village Theatre. The Mel Brooks classic movie turned Mel Brooks mega hit stage musical turned Mel Brooks movie musical is definitely a big piece of musical theater history. Add in huge stars like Gene Wilder, Zero Mostel, Matthew Broderick and Nathan Lane to that history and the result of subsequent productions can vary from bland imitation to just plain not in the same league to the other end of the spectrum with spot on awesome, but youll always kind of compare with the original. Well, luckily the Village production is on that latter end of the spectrum. With their couldnt-be-better-if-they-tried cast they manage an amazing show and even a few departures along the way that only made it stronger.

Nominee Reactions: Audra McDonald - 'Fiance Will Swenson Said Yes to Being My Tony Date!'
by BWW - May 01, 2012
We'll be talking to nominees all day for their reactions! Click here for the complete list!
Audra McDonald for Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role in a Musical for THE GERSHWINS' PORGY AND BESS
"I am honored and grateful and I'm super thrilled for the production as a whole to get so many nominations. I am so proud of this production and thankful to the Tony nominating committee for recognizing all aspects of the show. I got the news via text message. As usual, it was up at 6:15 for me to get the kids to school and I was back in bed by 8! Will was here though so it was nice to roll over when I got the news and say "Hey I got a nomination!" Then we both conked out again. When we finally got up I asked him to be my date for the Tonys - he said yes! - so I guess that was our little celebration. Now it's back to being a mom for the day and get ready for the show tonight. I'm really looking forward to seeing everyone at the theater tonight to congratulate them."

by Stage Tube - Dec 28, 2011
Today in 1976, the first Broadway revival of Fiddler on the Roof opened at the Winter Garden Theatre. Featuring music by Jerry Bock, lyrics by Sheldon Harnick, and book by Joseph Stein, the story centers on Tevye, the father of five daughters, and his attempts to maintain his family and Jewish religious traditions while outside influences encroach upon their lives.
