PlayGround continues its 25th season of its celebrated Monday Night PlayGround staged reading series with the first 2019 Monday readings on Monday, January 21, 8 PM at Berkeley Repertory Theatre's Roda Theatre. The topic for January's round, announced last Friday, is "ADAPT A FAIRY TALE". Members of the 2018-19 PlayGround Writers Company have just four-and-a-half days to generate their original ten-minute plays inspired by the topic. The top six scripts will each receive an hour-and-a-half rehearsal and a professional script-in-hand staged reading at Berkeley Rep on January 21. PlayGround writers in Los Angeles are working simultaneously on the same prompt and their finalists will be presented at Hollywood's Broadwater Mainstage (home of Sacred Fools Theatre Company) on January 14. PlayGround has announced the lineup for its second annual PlayGround Solo Performance Festival, a celebration of the best in Bay Area solo performance, running January 24-February 10 at Potrero Stage. The festival features 12 double-bill performances by 11 local artists over three weeks, including new works by Ron Campbell, Julie Gieseke, Malcolm Grissom, Emil  Guillermo, Michael Phillis, Fred Pitts, Kathryn Seabron, and Talisha Tolliver, as well as special guests Marga Gomez, Matthew Martin, and Nina Wise, with each evening running a little over two hours. PlayGround opens the program to the next generation of performers with a special Open Mic Night on Monday, January 28, at 8pm. The festival, initiated last winter as one of PlayGround's new "pop-up" programs, represents an extension of PlayGround's mission and commitment to the discovery of bold new voices for the stage and the first PlayGround offering fully dedicated to solo performance. Represented by Founding Artistic Director Robert Kelley, TheatreWorks Silicon Valley took home a raft of awards at the 42nd Annual San Francisco Bay Area Theatre Critics Circle (SFBATCC) Excellence in Theatre Awards Gala, held at the Victoria Theatre in San Francisco on March 26. Due to popular pre-sale demand, Aurora Theatre Company announces that it will add an additional two weeks of performances for the Bay Area Premiere of Sarah Greenman's wildly creative biographical play, LENI. Jon Tracy (The Elaborate Entrance of Chad Deity, Breakfast With Mugabe) directs this multi-media play, called "a thought-provoking tour through the world of Nazi propagandist Leni Riefenstahl" by Seattle Weekly. Featuring Stacy Ross (Gidion's Knot, Wilder Times) and Martha Brigham (The How and The Why).

San Diego Repertory Theatre (San Diego REP) will present the world premiere of Associate Artistic Director Todd Salovey's newest play, 'The Dybbuk for Hannah and Sam's Wedding' as the third production of the theatre's 41st season. Written and directed by Salovey, the play is a one-man adaptation of the classic Jewish play 'The Dybbuk' by S. Ansky.

Boxcar Theatre's 2014 immersive hit, The Speakeasy, is on track to relaunch this summer in its new home in San Francisco's North Beach-Chinatown neighborhood. A ribbon-cutting ceremony is scheduled for Monday, August 8, with previews starting Friday, August 12, and a press opening scheduled for mid-October.
