The National Puppetry Conference is proud to announce the 21st annual Puppetry Conference at the Eugene O'Neill Theater Center. Hands down, the best venue in which to collaborate, experiment, explore and develop your ideas and talents relating to puppet theatre, the National Puppetry Conference is open to puppeteers, theatre designers, actors, musicians, directors, artists, producers, playwrights and students. The Pre-Conference intensive workshops run from June 8th to the 10th with the full Conference beginning June 11th and culminating with public performances June 18th and 19th.

Max Wilk, author, playwright, film and television writer, and long time dramaturg for the National Playwrights Conference passed away at the age of 90, on Saturday, February 19th, at his home in Westport, Connecticut.

Preston Whiteway, Executive Director of the Eugene O'Neill Theater Center, today announced that the National Endowment for the Arts has awarded a grant of $20,000 to support new play development at the O'Neill's National Playwrights and National Music Theater Conferences. The Eugene O'Neill Theater Center is one of 1,057 not-for-profit organizations recommended for a grant as part of the federal agency's first round of fiscal year 2011 grants. In total, the Arts Endowment will distribute $26.68 million to support projects nationwide.

Preston Whiteway will continue as executive director of the Eugene O'Neill Theater Center for three more years, Variety reports. Whiteway recently renewed his contract with the Center.

Yale Rep's original musical, 'POP!' and Hartford Stage's production of Horton Foote's marathon 'The Orphans' Home Cycle' are big winners of the 20th annual Connecticut Critics Circle. Between them, Yale and Hartford took 11 awards out of a total of 19, with Yale pulling off a first-time feat of copping both outstanding play and musical.

The Eugene O'Neill Theater Center announced today that Monte Cristo Cottage, boyhood summer home of Eugene O?Neill , setting for two of his most revered plays, Long Day?s Journey Into Night and Ah, Wilderness!, will be open for public tours Thursday, May 27 through Labor Day weekend; Thursday through Saturday, noon to 4 pm; Sundays 1-3 pm. The Cottage will be closed on Memorial Day and Labor Day.

The Eugene O'Neill Theater Center, winner of the 2010 Tony Award for Regional Theater, has announced selections for this summer's Cabaret and Performance Conference, Artistic Director Michael Bush.

The Eugene O'Neill Theater Center announced today that seven plays will be developed at the 2010 National Playwrights Conference under the leadership of artistic director Wendy C. Goldberg. Tom Viertel, Chairman of the Board of the Eugene O'Neill Theater Center, has announced that Stephen Sondheim will present Harold Prince with the organization's Monte Cristo Award at a gala benefit on Monday, April 5, 2010 at Bridgewaters. The Award, given annually in recognition of a distinguished career exemplifying Eugene O'Neill's pioneering spirit and standard of excellence, has previously been presented to Kevin Spacey, Neil Simon, Jason Robards, Jr., Edward Albee, August Wilson, Zoe Caldwell, Brian Dennehy, Karl Malden, Arthur and Barbara Gelb, and Wendy Wasserstein.
